Millionaire gives away fortune which made him miserable Austrian millionaire Karl Rabeder is giving away every penny of his £3 million fortune after realising his riches were making him unhappy."More and more I heard the words: 'Stop what you are doing now – all this luxury and consumerism – and start your real life'," he said. "I had the feeling I was working as a slave for things that I did not wish for or need. Since selling his belongings, Mr Rabeder said he felt "free, the opposite of heavy". But he said he did not judge those who chose to keep their wealth. "I do not have the right to give any other person advice. I was just listening to the voice of my heart and soul."

Another major storm headed to snowy Mid-Atlantic A second major storm in less than a week was blowing Tuesday toward the Mid-Atlantic region, where plows still hadn't touched some roads, utility workers were struggling to restore power and shovels were in short supply.Forecasters predicted the snow would start Tuesday afternoon and continue into Wednesday, along with wicked winds. A foot or more was forecast for Washington and as many as 18 inches for the Northeast travel hub of Philadelphia — which could cause travel problems as far north as Boston. Some areas are already under nearly 3 feet of snow.

Ripples of Dubai killing spread across region hadowy figure murdered in his Dubai hotel room by a hit squad that the police say operated with European passports. It sounds like the plot of a John Le Carré spy novel, but this is reality and the hunt is on for the killers of top Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh. At al-Mabhouh's funeral in Damascus, Syria, where he spent the last years of his life, few doubted Israel was behind the assassination. At his family home in Gaza there is the same conviction that Israel's intelligence unit, Mossad, was responsible. Dubai police have said Mossad could be behind this killing on their territory and has warned Hamas and Mossad to stay away. But the evidence is not compelling yet to lay official blame.Seats at a premium on planes, trains out of DC A $20 cab ride to the airport skyrocketed to the "snow rate" of $100 in the nation's capital, and those travelers who could get to the airport or train station still had to haggle or wait in long lines to escape the snowbound Mid-Atlantic.The most pressing matter: get out before another foot or more of snow comes Tuesday. The region had nearly 3 feet of snow in some areas. One scientist said if all the snow that fell on the East Coast were melted, it would fill 12 million Olympic swimming pools or 30,000 Empire State buildings. Philadelphia and Washington each need just a little more than nine inches to give the cities their snowiest winters since 1884, the first year records were kept.

Obama, The War President by Helen Thomas / President Barack Obama does have a foreign policy. It's called war. The President has not defined any real difference between his hawkish approach to international issues and that of his predecessor, former President George W. Bush. The unit provides terror-related surveillance and security for waterfront events like the Fourth of July fireworks.

La Cañada Flintridge digs out as a new storm nears One day after a river of mud brought havoc to a La Cañada Flintridge neighborhood, residents faced a massive cleanup Sunday, with chest-high mounds of muck lining the streets, damaged homes rendered uninhabitable and nearby catch basins filled to capacity with debris. Authorities lifted evacuation orders that at one point Saturday had affected 500 homes in the fire-ravaged foothill communities of La Crescenta and La Cañada Flintridge. Forty-three homes in the communities were damaged, and nine were red-tagged, preventing residents from entering until the structures could be stabilized.

Nero Once Fiddled, Now Obama is Manning the Printing Presses For President Obama it has been a dismal year. He cannot claim victory on even a single one of his big four agendas: healthcare, the economy, the war or the environment. It seems for every step forward the Obama administration has taken two steps back. Before you agree to wholeheartedly embrace this rumbling disaster, take note that Obama’s failures, even if they extend just another three years, are the nation’s failures and there will be consequences thrust upon us all. Iran lawyer haunted by young man's execution Lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh is filled with rage over the treatment of her client, 20-year-old Arash Rahmanipour, who was not defended in court and then was quietly put to death. Reporting from Tehran and Beirut - The defendant met with his lawyer once for 15 minutes before he was sentenced to death and hanged. When the lawyer complained to authorities, they ignored her. When she tried to enter the courtroom where he was being tried, they threatened her with arrest. And when she spoke out publicly at what she described as a gross miscarriage of justice, they shut off her cellphone. Iranian authorities executed Rahmanipour and Mohammad-Reza Ali-Zamani, 37, both alleged to be members of an outlawed monarchist group called the Kingdom Assembly, and sentenced nine others to death in late January in what many interpreted as a warning to protesters ahead of Thursday's commemorations of the Islamic Revolution.(the rest of the story at the link........this gives you an idea of what it is like to 'not have the rights and freedoms' we have had in America. This can come to this country and indeed, stories keep being uncovered that let us see travesty of justice in our own country. Historic' snow strands countless in Mid-Atlantic Planes were grounded, trains stood still and Greyhound buses weren't rolling in the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday, leaving stranded travelers wondering when they'll be able to escape the icy, gray mess created by a major snowstorm. Hundreds of thousands of homes were without power with temperatures below freezing all day, with utilities warning it could be days before it's all restored. Plows had scraped down to bare pavement on some main thoroughfares while not touching streets in many areas buried by 2 feet or more. In the nation's capital, meanwhile, Monday will be another day for residents to get back to normal. The federal government made the decision to close agencies Monday, and many school districts across the region were giving students a snow day. For those stranded, however, the thought of another day of weekend wasn't much to smile about.

THE SLEEPING GIANT STIRS..The sleeping Giant of the American public stirs but conveniently forgets who originally dropped the debt bomb on them and, in the process, become members of the Republican hijacked Tea Party movement: Allen L Roland
Tea and no sympathy for the 'devil' Obama The Opryland Hotel in Nashville has a river all its own, one that runs, so the plaque says, with water blended from sources all across theUnited States. And the Tea Party movement that has come together at the hotel this weekend is like that: the roughly 600 politically excited folk who signed up for this event (and, controversially, paid $549 for the privilege) come from every corner of the country, including Alaska and Hawaii. Like the hotel's river, the movement is running swift and smooth – but if you open your nostrils wide and sniff, there is a bit of a bad smell.
Subverted Tea Party Movement Told to Embrace Republican Platform The Tea Party movement is now almost completely unrecognizable from what it was a few short years ago. It came to prominence in 2008 when the Libertarian Party of Illinois planned to hold an April 15, 2009 anti-tax “Boston Tea Party” in Chicago. In February 2009, the idea grew after CNBC personality Rick Santelli, speaking from the floor of the Chicago stock exchange, criticized the Obama administration’s tax and economic policies and urged Americans become Tea Party activists.Connecticut gas plant explodes, 2 reported dead At least two people died and dozens were feared injured on Sunday when a massive explosion erupted in a gas power plant under construction in Connecticut, police said. The local CBS station WFSB reported on its website that up to 250 people were feared hurt but this could not be confirmed by other sources. Scores of ambulances and several helicopters rushed to the scene of the Kleen Energy plant on the banks of the Connecticut River.Medical rescue personnel said two people were dead and at least 100 were injured, four critically, according to the Hartford Courant newspaper website.
House fire in Warwick, RI, kills 5, including baby A house fire that officials said might have simmered undetected for hours Saturday killed five people, including a mother and her 7-month-old baby, in one of Rhode Island's deadliest blazes since a 2003 fire at a crowded nightclub killed 100 people.Firefighters found the victims unconscious and severely burned on the second floor of a single-family house in a residential neighborhood, Warwick Fire Chief Kevin Sullivan said. They were called to the house just after noon by a friend of the victims who was sleeping on the first floor after a late-night party at the home, he said.
Flying Cheap..... FRONTLINE INVESTIGATES SAFETY PROBLEMS OF MAJOR AIRLINES OUTSOURCING FLIGHTS TO SMALLER REGIONAL CARRIERS Frontline special Feb 9,2010 9PM The crash of Continental 3407 outside Buffalo last year, killing all on board, was big news, as any commercial crash is. But like many who were fortunate enough not to be touched personally by the tragedy, what most caught my attention was the news that followed. The co-pilot had been making less than $16,000.
While I knew the airline industry had been struggling through tough times since 9/11, I sure didn’t know that some of the folks that fly me around are working second jobs and overnighting on lounge room La-Z-Boys. And I didn’t know that regional airlines, once thought of as puddle-jumpers, had grown so fast that they now account for more than half the nation’s daily departures. We are on our way to becoming a regional airline nation.

Big Pharma executive murders 8-year-old son with Xanax and Ambien(NaturalNews) I've always said that Big Pharma executives were guilty of crimes against humanity. Now one of their wealthiest and most successful executives has been caught trying to pull off a murder-suicide in an upscale NY hotel. Gigi Jordan, who ran pharmaceutical companies selling pills to treat cancer, murdered her 8-year-old son by force-feeding him ground-up pharmaceuticals which included Xanax and Ambien.
Caught on tape: Pastry thief and a bad dog walker When three former Palm executives started public testing of their security monitoring software late last year, the goal was to prove to the world that the product--Vitamin D--was really better than other technologies at distinguishing humans from other moving objects. But several months of testing also led to some rather interesting things being caught on tape. Owners of a San Leandro, Calif., coffee shop, for example, were able to determine who was stealing pastries once a month, forcing a $300 pastry order to be scrapped each time."This is exactly what we wanted to do by getting out the free beta," Vitamin D co-founder Greg Shirai said in a telephone interview. "Our theory was that people were going to just going to try it and come up with their own uses."

Evacuations continue as officials scramble to clear debris basins Rivers of mud and debris damaged or destroyed dozens of homes as they cascaded down the hillsides of La Cañada Flintridge. Crews are racing to make room in catch basins before more rains arrive. A flash flood warning in the San Gabriel Mountain foothills damaged by the Station fire has been lifted and a second band of rain cells passed through the burn area without triggering more of the mudslides that damaged or destroyed 43 homes in La Cañada Flintridge, closed several roads in the Santa Monica Mountains and washed out portions of Angeles Crest Highway and Ortega Highway near Idyllwild.
Obama, The New NeoCon - Military Confrontation RisingThunderous mudslides sweep away cars, assault homes in foothills north of Los Angeles Thunderous mudslides damaged dozens of homes, swept away cars and pushed furniture into the streets of the foothills north of Los Angeles on Saturday as intense winter rain poured down mountains denuded by a summer wildfire. No injuries were reported but residents and emergency responders were caught off guard by the unpredicted ferocity of the storm, which damaged more than 40 homes and dozens of vehicles.
3 dead in Boulder mid-air collision Authorities say an airplane towing a glider has collided with another aircraft in Boulder County, sending the two planes crashing into the ground and killing at least three people. FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said one of the aircraft clipped the towline of a plane that had been pulling a glider. Sheriff's spokesman Rick Brough said the glider disconnected from the plane just before the second craft hit the tow rope.
U.S. Counterterrorism Officials Insisted that Crotch Bomber Be Let Into Country Undersecretary for management at the State Department, Patrick F. Kennedy, told Congress that the State Department wanted to keep crotch bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab out of the U.S., but that intelligence agencies insisted that Abdulmutallab be let into the country. Specifically, on January 27th, Kennedy told the House Committee on Homeland Security that intelligence agencies blocked revocation of Abdulmutallab's visa because it would have foiled a "larger investigation" into Al Qaeda.

McKinney Receives Munich Peace Prize "Clearly, the MAPC gave more
thought to the significance of those whose struggle for peace is based on principle
. . . than did the Nobel Peace Committee that rewarded our President for war."
Former Congresswoman and 2008 Green Party Presidential Nominee will participate
in an International Peace Conference scheduled to take place in Munich, Germany
on February 6 - 7, 2010 while the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) meets
in the same city to plan war. McKinney, a long-time proponent of abolishing
NATO, is scheduled to speak on February 6 at a rally to protest the NATO "security" conference. After
the rally, McKinney will participate in the International Peace Conference whose
schedule and call to demonstrate against NATO war policies are included below. The
MAPC Peace Prize is normally awarded by the previous year's winner. In
McKinney's case the honors will be done by André Shepherd, a U.S. Army
deserter from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and asylum seeker in Germany. Said
McKinney of her selection for the award, "I am humbled to be so recognized. Clearly,
the MAPC gave more thought to the significance of those whose struggle for peace
is based on principle and an unshakeable commitment, despite the personal sacrificies
required, than did the Nobel Peace Committee that rewarded our President for
war." McKinney continued, "In this way of thinking, peace is
now war, lies are now truth, and ignorance is strength."
McKinney calls on Americans across Germany to converge on Munich and protest
U.S. and NATO war policies. McKinney will meet with American ex-patriots
in multiple meetings while in Munich.

Tea in America The attitude toward the Tea Party movement is an emerging
division in the American electorate.
Those who support and those who oppose the Tea Party agenda are often as different
as conservatives and progressives. The Tea Party attitude is more predictive
of President Barack Obama's approval than are education, race, religious and
party affiliation. In addition, a very large portion of the likely electorate
sides with or against Tea Partiers, leaving few moderate voices in between.
Tea Partiers are not a fringe phenomenon. The political views of those who identify
with Tea Partiers from a distance and those who are actively engaged in the movement
are very similar. From the perspective of Tea Party detractors, the sympathizers
are for the most part as extreme as are actual Tea Party organizers and participants.

Critical debris basins along the San Gabriel Mountains are near capacity or overflowing as another band of rain and thunderstorms bears down on the charred foothills this afternoon, prompting officials to order more evacuations as they brace for the possibility of more damaging mudslides.Evacuation orders are in place for about 500 homes in parts of La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Acton. At least 41 houses have been damaged or destroyed in a hillside neighborhood in La Cañada Flintridge. The city of Sierra Madre, where saturated foothills are threatening to break loose, has also issued evacuation orders.

EMERGING SUNSPOTS: New sunspots are popping up faster than NOAA can number them. Today's image from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) shows a pair of no-name sunspot groups rapidly growing in the sun's northern hemisphere: This raises to three the number of sunspot groups currently visible from Earth. The last time we could see three sunspots at the same time was in May of 2008. Since then, the sun fell into--and is now bouncing out of--a century-level solar minimum. Readers with solar telescopes should train their optics on the circled areas to witness sunspot genesis in action.U.S. missionary freed by N. More than 8 inches had already fallen in some D.C. areas by midnight and 10 inches was reported in Pittsburgh as the blizzard blew into the Mid-Atlantic region, reducing visibility. Snowstorm or 'Snowpocalypse'? D.C. Abuzz as Weather Hits The flakes hadn't even begun flying before fear of the impending "snowpocalypse" began sweeping the nation's capital this week. Now, as the city hunkers down for what meteorologists predict will be a "historic" storm, District of Columbia residents are abuzz with a collective mania many say they've never seen before. The federal government, which employs nearly 300,000 people from the greater D.C. area, and many local businesses planned to close hours early today. Dozens of school districts decided Thursday to give students the day off; all before any snow had fallen. Forecasters expect the region to receive between 16 and 26 inches of snow by Saturday night, rivaling the top two snowstorms in history. Washington, D.C., received 20.5 inches in a February 1899 storm and 28 inches in a January 1922 storm.

UPDATE 1-Powerful snowstorm hits U.S. East Coast A powerful storm slammed the U.S. mid-Atlantic on Friday, threatening record snowfall in a region heavily dependent on home heating oil and natural gas supplies. Forecasts calling for 20 to 30 inches (50 to 76 cm) of snow and near-blizzard conditions from Virginia to southern New Jersey prompted U.S. government offices in the Washington area to close their doors four hours early. President Barack Obama, who previously has made fun of the reaction in Washington to small amounts of snow, was not taking this storm lightly. "I think even a transplanted Hawaiian to Chicago has sufficient respect for a forecast of nearly two feet (61 cm) of snow," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

McConnell: Obama, Federal Government Trying To Do Too MuchYemen: USA are fighting against democracy, not against Al-Qaeda A pair of trousers catches fire in an aeroplane close to Detroit and missiles rain down on Yemen. Is this is what is called the butterfly effect? For Mohammed Hassan, the terrorist threat is only an excuse. In this latest chapter in our series "Understanding the Muslim world", our specialist explains what is really at stake in Yemen: i.e. undermining democracy in the Gulf in order to keep control over its oil. Since the failed attack on the Amsterdam-Detroit flight, Yemen has hit the headlines. It's there that the young Nigerian terrorist is supposed to have trained. How could this country, an ally of the US, become of refuge for al-Qaeda?

Israeli Women Soldiers Break the Silence What's it like to be a woman serving in the Israeli occupation force in the West Bank? Is a woman's experience as an occupier any different than a man's? Yes indeed, say some women who have just broken their silence and offered a glimpse into the grim reality of the occupation."A female combat soldier needs to prove more," one explains. As part of a sweeping report from the Human Rights Council, the Council partially validates claims from whistleblower Sgt. Joseph Hickman who told the magazine about the existence of a secret detention facility at Guantanamo Bay called "Camp No."

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany. The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism. His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy. The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator's action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
US announces $6B arms sale to Taiwan In a move sure to aggravate China, the Obama administration on Friday announced plans for more than $6 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, the self-governing island the Chinese claim as their own.The sale would include Black Hawk helicopters, Patriot missiles, mine-hunting ships and information technology. Lawmakers have 30 days to comment before the plan proceeds; senior lawmakers have traditionally supported arms sales to Taiwan.Taiwan is the most sensitive matter in already-tense relations between the U.S. and China, two powers increasingly linked by security and economic issues. The sale could spark a temporary break in U.S.-China military ties.

Suicide And The Soldier Nine years ago, the Cheney/Bush/Rove/Rumsfeld administration started, by a series of treasonous lies, its so-called endless wars on the nebulous "terrorism", much of which was provoked by decades of anti-Muslim/pro-Israeli US foreign policies. According to the US Department of Defense more US military personnel have taken their own lives since 2001 than have been killed in action (KIA) in either Iraq or Afghanistan. In 2009 alone, more than 330 active servicemen and women have committed suicide - more than those KIAs in Afghanistan and Iraq. And this number doesn't count the veterans who have killed themselves following their discharge.
Pentagon chief defends arms sales to India, Pakistan Reporting from Islamabad, Pakistan - Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates leaned on India and Pakistan during his trip to South Asia this week to set aside a simmering rivalry and confront militant extremists. At the same time, Gates and other U.S. officials pushed arms sales that could fuel the antagonism between the two countries. Gates' trip was framed by that apparent contradiction in U.S. policy. On his arrival in Pakistan, a television news interviewer put the question bluntly: "Why re-arm both countries?" The Pentagon chief sidestepped the question. Initiative would allow pot sales at liquor stores Relax it and tax it. That's the motto behind a new cannabis initiative that would allow Oregon's state-controlled liquor stores to legally sell marijuana to adults. Initiative backers said their plan would send 90 percent of the proceeds from the state's sale of marijuana to Oregon's General Fund, which could lower Oregonians' state tax burden. Smaller percentages would go to funding drug abuse education and treatment programs. The initiative would also legalize the growing of hemp, a non-drug variant of cannabis that can be used to make industrial-strength fibers and bio-fuels. Supporters claim that allowing cannabis cultivation and sales through state liquor stores would add $300 million in combined tax revenues and savings to Oregon's budget. (growning Hemp has been done for as long as this country as been here for many wonderful purposes, even George Washington grew Hemp.....it has been said, that this could save the world and solve so many problems environmentally!)

More than 1,400 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed in the onslaught during which Israeli soldiers committed war crimes by using human shields, targeting schools and UN buildings that were hosting civilians.

5 US youths detained in Pakistan say they were tortured Five American youths held in Pakistan on suspicion of 'using the Internet to contact militants,' say they have been tortured by police. The Muslim American students, in their 20s and from the Washington, DC area, were detained in December at a house in the Punjabi town of Sargodha, south of Islamabad. The arrests came as US officials and their internal intelligence arm, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), alerted the Pakistani government that the five Muslim youths had vanished from their homes and headed for Pakistan.

Davidson: Obama White House Is Lying to You Author, investor and longtime Wall Street observer James Dale Davidson says our government is lying to us: There is no genuine economic recovery happening.“I think what we have seen ... is a simulated recovery which has been generated by the government faking it in a lot of different ways," putting out what he calls statistical falsehoods on economic numbers "to make it seem that the economy is stronger than it is,” Davidson told Newsmax.
For example, calculations for the recently released unemployment figures released failed to include the fact that the Bureau of Labor Statistics had undercounted the number of unemployed people in 2009 by 824,000 persons. Video — Davidson: Obama White House Is Lying to You

Massachusetts gets ugly The campaigns of Scott Brown and Martha Coakley exchanged angry jibes Monday as emotions in the crucial Massachusetts Senate contest seemed to reach the boiling point in its final day of campaigning. Three polls released Monday did little to dispell the conventional wisdom that Brown is playing a strong hand or that Democrats have full reason to be frantic in the race's final hours. A Suffolk University survey of three bellwether counties found Brown "surging," according to pollsters, and leading by double digits in all three. An ARG poll found Brown leading by seven percentage points, and a Research 2000 survey showed the race tied.
Torching of Nigerian church sets off deadly riot Angry Muslim youths set a church filled with worshippers ablaze in northern Nigeria, starting a riot that killed at least 27 people and wounded more than 300 others in the latest religious violence in the region, officials said Monday.About 5,000 people lost their homes as rioters also burned mosques and homes in Jos, a city that saw more than 300 residents killed during a similar uprising in 2008, said local Red Cross official Auwal Muhammad Madobi. He said he had no information about deaths. Police officials declined to offer a count of the dead.
More troops, aid go to Haiti, but hunger persists Troops, doctors and aid workers flowed into Haiti on Monday even while victims of the quake that killed an estimated 200,000 people still struggled to find a cup of water or a handful of food. European nations pledged more than a half-billion dollars in emergency and long-term aid, on top of at least $100 million promised earlier by the U.S.But help was still not reaching many victims of Tuesday's quake — choked back by transportation bottlenecks, bureaucratic confusion, fear of attacks on aid convoys, the collapse of local authority and the sheer scale of the need.
Chemicals coat apples decades after Alar scare More than two decades after parents dumped apples from children's lunch boxes because of concerns about a chemical applied to the fruit, most researchers agree the crop is safer although most of it still carries pesticide residue.Growers saw prices plunge after a 1989 television report led to widespread fears apples were coated in a cancer-causing chemical called Alar, used to enhance crunch and color. The public outcry led the government to ban some chemicals and increase oversight, while growers adopted new approaches to spraying apples and reduced the use of harsh chemicals. But in 2005, the last year results were available, the U.S. Department of Agriculture found pesticide residues on 98 percent of the apples it tested. All the residue was at levels within federal guidelines.

shelter for South Korea's foreign brides Reporting from Seoul
- Cao Thi Nguyen and her baby were marooned in a strange land without
family or options. The young woman, who moved here from Vietnam two years
ago to marry a South Korean man, had been kicked out of her home after
a fight with her husband's family.Unable to speak Korean, the slight
29-year-old wandered the streets of Seoul for months until she found
a refuge designed to help the growing number of foreign brides in the
country -- nearly half of whom report suffering domestic abuse.
Myeongrak Village, a motel-turned-shelter with a capacity for 14 residents,
serves women exclusively, providing food and medical costs and a chance
at self-reliance.In South Korea, which in recent years has imported more
than 100,000 foreign brides from such nations as China, Mongolia, Vietnam
and the Philippines, many newcomers struggle to adapt to their adopted
homeland and its close-knit culture. Some are abandoned by their new families."Many
of those living here were forced out without any preparation by their irresponsible
families," said Park Jee-hee, a social worker at Myeongrak Village.

The body was described as that of a white male about 6-feet tall with a large
build and "very long" fingers. According to authorities, there were

Met Office admits they botched snow warning (england) The Met Office has admitted that it failed to warn the public of the heavy snow that brought swaths of Britain to a standstill on Wednesday. Forecasters conceded that they did not spot the widespread snow storms that caused transport disruption and a surge of weather-related accidents until it was too late. Up to six inches fell in parts of the South West, with drifts of 7ft in Wales. Even when the full extent of the threat was realised, flaws in the Met Office’s bad weather warning system meant that the public were not adequately informed, officials said. The system will now be reviewed.Pictures of Earthquake in Haiti (warning....graphic)

Slug the Obama Story 'Disconnect' The first thing I learned in journalism is that every story has a name. At WEEI News Radio in Boston, the editor would label each story with one word, called a "slug," and assign a writer to write it for air. This week's devastating earthquake would be slugged "Haiti." A story about a gruesome murder might be "Nightmare."We're at the first anniversary of the inauguration of President Barack Obama, and the slug, the word that captures its essence, is "Disconnect."This is, still, a surprising word to use about the canny operatives who so perfectly judged the public mood in 2008. But they haven't connected since. There is a disconnect, a detachment, a distance between the president's preoccupations and the concerns of the people. There's a disconnect between his policy proposals and the people's sense, as expressed in polls, of what the immediate problems are.

PROMISES, PROMISES: Many Obama pledges unkept President Barack Obama ends his first year in office with his to-do list still long and his unfulfilled campaign promises stacked high. From winding down the war in Iraq to limiting lobbyists, Obama has made some progress. But the president has faced political reality and accepted — sometimes grudgingly — compromises that leave him exposed to criticism. Promises that have proven difficult include pledges not to raise taxes, to curb earmarks and to shut down theGuantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba by the end of his first year."We are moving systematically to bring about change, but change is hard," Obama told a town hall crowd in California. "Change doesn't happen overnight."That was in March.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all the Russias gave his blessing to this trip”, our source told us. He went on to say, once it is in Kamchatka, the icon shall be carried in procession to the church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker, where it will rest for about a day, then, it shall be taken to churches all over the Kamchatka region.Snow brings more chaos to UK Commuters were delayed, schools closed and flights suspended again today as the cold snap's possibly final flurry of snow swept across parts of the UK.The government told local authorities to cut back further on the use of salt to conserve stocks, while business leaders called for urgent talks between local authorities, transport and salt mining companies, schools and businesses, to improve emergency responses.

And perhaps, the best place to begin seeing on the edges of one's usual visual field is the corporate media itself. Let us begin by asking ourselves, "Who owns the corporate-mainstream media?"

Thousands of fish die in cold Southwest Florida waters Southwest Florida's record-low temperatures are taking a toll on more than agriculture.Over the past few days, cold water has killed thousands of snook, one of the state's most popular game fish. Many other fish species are going belly up as well. "There's a reason snook's general distribution doesn't go north of Tampa," said Aaron Adams, head of Mote Marine Laboratory's Charlotte Harbor Field Station. "This kind of cold can put a hurt on the snook population. A lot of people are reporting large fish, and that could affect the spawning stock."

Publisher's killing stuns divided island of Cyprus Political leaders expressed shock Tuesday at the slaying of a powerful publisher, puzzling over possible motives for a killing that stirred feelings of insecurity on this war-divided island.Andy Hadjicostis, the 41-year-old director of the Dias publishing group, was fatally shot late Monday outside his home in central Nicosia, in an attack that bore the hallmarks of a contract killing.Police spokesman Michalis Kastounotos said the victim was shot twice — in the back and chest — as he stepped out of his car. He died at the scene, in an upscale area of the Cypriot capital that includes several embassy compounds and is heavily policed.
CENSORSHIP AT NEWS WITH VIEWS For generations, most evangelical Christians have looked on as Israel bludgeoned the Palestinians. They have done nothing but bless and support Israel's reign of terror in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza. Now thousands of their brethren—Jewish Christians in Israel and the Occupied Territories—endure constant discrimination and harassment from ultra-Orthodox Jews. (See http://kingsmenarad.com/) The Israeli government and local authorities do nothing to defend them. And evangelicals in western nations remain largely oblivious. Why?
It's partly because evangelical American media will not report persecution of Christians in Israel! It is quick to publicize persecution of believers in Moslem or Communist countries such as China; but virtually no account of Israeli persecution of Christians is seen or spoken of on Christian internet, publishing or airwaves. Christian leaders fear offending Israel or seeming "anti-Semitic." I witnessed such censorship in action this week.
US investigating 38 cases of reconstruction abuse The U.S. agency overseeing the multibillion dollar Afghanistan reconstruction effort is investigating 38 criminal cases ranging from contract fraud to theft — most involving non-Afghans, officials said Tuesday. The reconstruction effort has come under increased scrutiny as Defense Department contractors pour into Afghanistan to support the U.S. military surge. But the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, headed by retired Marine Corps Gen. Arnold Fields, was only established by Congress in 2008, nearly seven years after the U.S. invasion to oust the Taliban.Just 10 of the criminal cases under the microscope involve Afghans only, while the rest involve U.S. and other foreigners, according to Raymond DiNunzio, the agency's assistant inspector general for inspections. He would not elaborate since the cases are under investigation. Nurse Outduels IRS Over M.B.A. Tuition A Maryland nurse accomplished two rare feats in her battle with the Internal Revenue Service: She defended herself against the agency's lawyers and won, and she got a ruling that could help tens of thousands of students deduct the cost of an M.B.A. degree on their taxes. The U.S. Tax Court handed Lori Singleton-Clarke her victory last month, saying the 47-year-old Bryantown, Md., woman had properly deducted nearly $15,000 in business school tuition. The Tax Court ruling should make it easier for many other professionals to deduct the expense of a Master in Business Administration degree. The IRS's rules on deducting work-related tuition are complicated and onerous, ultimately preventing most students from deducting their tuition. But this case clarifies the rules and will likely lead to more taxpayers taking the deduction, tax experts say.

H&M & Walmart Trashing Unsold Clothes That Could be Donated to Charity We just came upon some news that got us boiling mad – according to the New York Times, H&M and Walmart have been using box cutters and other sharp objects to slash and mutilate their unsold clothing stock(including brand new coats, jackets and shoes) to ribbons before stuffing it into trash bags and kicking it to the curb. If the Manhattan retailers’ wasteful behavior breaks your heart, imagine what it must feel like to hear about it as one of the New York City’s 16,000 homeless people desperately in need of a coat to keep them warm this winter. Why go through all of the trouble to destroy these perfectly wearable clothes when there are tons of people who could use them (literally right in front of the storefronts) and plenty of places that are more than willing to help organize and distribute them? The stores may have a business-oriented reason for this heinous practice but we’re having a lot of trouble swallowing it as an excuse for such senseless waste.

US drone missiles slaughtered 700 Pakistani civilians in 2009 US drone missile attacks have claimed the lives of over 700 Pakistani civilians since Barack Obama took office a year ago, according to figures released this week by officials in Islamabad. The escalation of Washington’s AfPak war, now in full swing, will mean the slaughter of thousands more men, women and children in 2010. The grim death toll was announced in the Pakistani English-language dailyDawn Monday, just as news of the latest strike by a Hellfire missile made its way from an impoverished village near the Afghanistan border. The missile strike left dead and buried in the rubble of their home a Pakistani teacher and his nine-year-old son. States battered with record lows face more frigid weather Another band of frigid weather will blanket the eastern two-thirds of the nation Wednesday, battering states already dealing with record-low temperatures that have been blamed for at least five deaths. The system will bring blistering cold weather and winds across the country, including many states not used to such temperatures. In Florida, Gov. Charlie Crist declared a state of emergency because of the threat to the state's lucrative crop industry. South chilled by Arctic winds, record snow in East Bitter cold and snow sweeping into the eastern U.S left part of New England under record snowfall and hit Southerners with subfreezing temperatures that farmers fear could destroy strawberries and other crops. Four deaths were blamed on the cold in Tennessee. The deep freeze was expected to last for at least the rest of the week. The National Weather Service said the mercury could fall below zero in St. Louis later this week for the first time since 1999. The duration of the cold snap is unusual, especially in the South, where the weather is typically chilly for just a day or two before temperatures rebound into the 50s.

Americans’ Role Seen in Uganda Anti-Gay Push Last March, three American evangelical Christians, whose teachings about “curing” homosexuals have been widely discredited in the United States, arrived here in Uganda’s capital to give a series of talks. The theme of the event, according to Stephen Langa, its Ugandan organizer, was “the gay agenda — that whole hidden and dark agenda” — and the threat homosexuals posed to Bible-based values and the traditional African family. .......(now that the country is trying to pass legislation to kill all homosexuals.....these 'christians' are seeing the real effects of spreading this type of fear and hate around.....and they act surprised, chagrined..........they should have remembered what it was like for the early Christians when they were hounded, tortured and killed for being 'christian')

Evidence
Mounts for US Complicity in Terrorism: Mutallab's father is no ordinary 'banker' When
nothing adds up, its time we starting looking at what we know. Our recent
terrorist, now dubbed "the crotch bomber" is another dupe. He could
have been working for anyone, drugged, brainwashed or simply influenced,
maybe by crazy Arabs, maybe by the Mossad, maybe by the CIA. We only know
the game is falling apart. We do know a couple of things. Dad, back
in Nigeria, ran
the national arms industry (DICON) in partnership with
Israel, in particular, the Mossad. He was in daily contact with
them. They run everything in Nigeria, from arms production to counter-terrorism.
Though Islamic, Muttalab was a close associate of Israel. He has been misrepresented. His "banking" is
a cover. Next, what do we know about the two Al Qaeda leaders Bush
had released, the ones who planned this? .......much much more at the link!
Two more ships seized by Somali pirates Mogadishu - Somali pirates seized a chemical tanker and a cargo vessel on Monday, underlining the continued risk to shipping in some of the world's busiest maritime trade routes.Somalia has been mired in chaos with no effective central government since 1991 and pirate gangs operating from coastal havens have flourished over the past few years. They have made tens of millions of dollars from seizing ships for ransom in the Gulf of Aden, linking Europe to Asia, and are also hunting far into the Indian Ocean to evade foreign navies sent to protect commercial shipping. On Monday, pirates seized the British-flagged chemical tanker St James Park in the Gulf of Aden and the Panama-registered cargo ship Navios Apollon, taking the number of vessels they hold to more than 10, maritime officials said.

I have now received photographs from five different email addresses (all cox.net accounts) showing what appears to be a rocket launch off Orange County on New Year’s Eve, about 5 p.m., although we still don’t know exactly what we’re looking at, as the reader Comment section points out.Vandenberg didn’t have any publicly scheduled launches on Thursday. And the Navy typically does not have missile shoots offshore during the last week of December.
All of which raises the question: Exactly what did these people photograph? Many readers say it was the contrail of a jet. Others disagree. Before you decide, read the comments attached to the emails. (I’m being careful here because I can’t prove that the emails came from five different people, although it’s likely. There were a lot of people outside last night to watch/photograph the ‘blue moon’ at sunset. And the images were taken from different vantage points, including one that clearly shows Crystal Cove.) Then check an archive image I added today (down at the very bottom). It’s from Steve Smestad, who photographed a contrail from Huntington Beach.
Dick Cheney's lies about President Obama It's pathetic to break a New Year's resolution before we even get to New Year's Day, but here I go. I had promised myself that I would do a better job of ignoring Dick Cheney's corrosive and nonsensical outbursts -- that I would treat them, more or less, like the pearls of wisdom one hears from homeless people sitting in bus shelters. But he is a former vice president, which gives him a big stage for his histrionic Rottweiler-in-Winter act. It is never a good idea to let widely disseminated lies and distortions go unchallenged. And the shrill screed that Cheney unloosed Wednesday is so full of outright mendacity that, well, my resolution will have to wait.
Obama's Terror Critics 'Hysterical' or Dead-On?If only we lived in a "mature nation," writes David Brooks in the New York Times. That way, President Obama could have gone on TV after the Detroit terror scare and said, “Listen, we’re doing the best we can, but some terrorists are bound to get through.” But no, our government must be omnipotent, and therefore we have to listen to "contemptuous and hysterical" criticism.
Goldman Sachs denies betting against its clients on CDOs In a rare statement of defence, the American investment bank has offered a detailed explanation of its dealings in mortgage-backed products, particularly regarding collateralised debt obligations (CDOs), in the years preceding the financial crisis. The explanation was prompted by an article in the New York Times in which former Goldman employees and debt experts claimed that the bank knew the CDOs it was designing and selling to clients were highly risky. The sources claimed that rather than warning clients of the dangers, Goldman spent millions of dollars "short-selling" the instruments, reaping vast rewards when they imploded.Akiva Eldar / U.S. tax dollars fund rabbi who excused killing gentile babies The White House condemns the torching of a mosque, yet respectable Americans contribute to a yeshiva whose rabbi said it's okay to kill gentile babies. North Magnetic Pole Moving Due to Core Flux Earth's north magnetic pole is racing toward Russia at almost 40 miles (64 kilometers) a year due to magnetic changes in the planet's core, new research says. The core is too deep for scientists to directly detect its magnetic field. But researchers can infer the field's movements by tracking how Earth's magnetic field has been changing at the surface and in space. Now, newly analyzed data suggest that there's a region of rapidly changing magnetism on the core's surface, possibly being created by a mysterious "plume" of magnetism arising from deeper in the core.Danger Lurks in Ammonia-Treated School Lunch Beef Most school lunches and fast-food burgers contain processed beef, a product considered so safe from contamination that the USDA exempted it from meat testing—but that has in fact been found to include E. coli and salmonella, according to a lengthy expose in the New York Times. The product, made from low-quality fatty trimmings, is injected with ammonia to kill pathogens, a process little known to the public because ammonia isn't listed as an ingredient in the beef.

Feds Threaten Bloggers Over Leaked Air Security Memo Two bloggers who posted details of new airport security directives online were visited at home by agents from the Transportation Security Administration demanding to know their sources. Frischling and Washington Post Christopher Elliott were both served with subpoenas.
Frischling says he put the document online to clear up confusion about the
new procedures after receiving it from an anonymous source via Gmail. "They’re
saying it’s a security document but it was sent to every airport and

the current eruptions at Soufriere Hills on Montserrat are prompting cancellations of over 40 flights today from Puerto Rico. This is due to the ash plumes from the current dome eruptions - the NASA Earth Observatory posted images of the recent activity showing the large, grey plume drifting to the west. What is impressive is that Puerto Rico is over 250 miles / 400 km to the west of Montserrat, so this ash must be significant enough to prompt these flight cancellations. The ash appears to be causing poor visibility at 10,000 feet / 3 km - along with being a threat to cause engine failure. Officials from Puerto Rico say regular flights will likely return tomorrow.

Firestorm Over Oklahoma Abortion Information Law Set To Continue An Oklahoma district judge put off until Feb. 19 any decision about an anti-abortion law that would require doctors to submit information about women who have the procedure in the state. That information would then be published—with names omitted—on the website of the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The law includes more than 30 questions a woman seeking an abortion would have to answer, including details about whether she is having relationship problems or whether she can’t afford a child. Some critics have said it is "like undressing a woman in public, exposing their most personal issues on the internet," quoted by ABC News."This law is a profound intrusion on women’s privacy and a waste of taxpayers’ money," said Jennifer Mondino, staff attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights, which is challenging the law, quoted by National Public Radio (NPR)

Another one labeled the "Cornhusker Kickback" provides $100 million for holdout Sen. Ben Nelson's Nebraska, the Washington Post reports. Chris Dodd threw in $100 million for a medical center in his state, quickly dubbed the "U Con." And the list goes on.
10 Ways Senate Health Reform Hurts You The Senate health reform bill is all fire and brimstone for the folks over at Firedoglake. Democrats must sell health plan to voters Reporting from Washington

to next year's midterm elections plan to market the bill as a way to help
voters who are focused more on unemployment and the economy.
The chances of passing healthcare legislation rose significantly Monday,
with a Senate vote that put it on track to clear the chamber by Christmas.

Egypt's barrier along Gaza border called 'wall of shame' Reporting from Cairo - An underground barrier to prevent tunneling by smugglers along Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip has been dubbed a "wall of shame" by Arab writers and politicians who charge that Cairo is siding with Israel in isolating the 1.5 million Palestinians living in the seaside enclave. Construction on the 100-foot-deep steel wall began a few weeks ago, but the Egyptian government didn't publicly acknowledge the project until the weekend. Officials defended the effort against accusations that it was an affront to Palestinians by the government of President Hosni Mubarak, which opposes Hamas, the militant group ruling Gaza.

Dred Scott Redux: Obama and the Supremes Stand Up for Slavery While we were all out doing our Christmas shopping, the highest court in the land quietly put the kibosh on a few more of the remaining shards of human liberty. It happened earlier this week, in a discreet ruling that attracted almost no notice and took little time. In fact, our most august defenders of the Constitution did not have to exert themselves in the slightest to eviscerate not merely 220 years of Constitutional jurisprudence but also centuries of agonizing effort to lift civilization a few inches out of the blood-soaked mire that is our common human legacy. They just had to write a single sentence.

Foreign interpreters hurt in battle find U.S. insurance benefits wanting For Iraqis and Afghans killed or injured while working for the U.S. military, benefits have often fallen far short of what was promised to them and their families. After the invasion of Iraq, the U.S. military discovered that rebuilding the country and confronting an insurgency required a weapon not in its arsenal: thousands of interpreters. To fill the gap, the Pentagon turned to Titan Corp., a San Diego defense contractor, which eventually hired more than 8,000 interpreters, most of them Iraqis. An insurance program funded by American taxpayers was supposed to provide a safety net for interpreters and their families in the event of injury or death. Yet for many, the benefits have fallen painfully short of what was promised, an investigation by the Los Angeles Times and ProPublica found.

Overloaded with Massive Debt; Citibank Given a $38 Billion Dollar Tax Break

billions of dollars worth of tax breaks that otherwise would decline in value
when the government sells its stake to private investors. (Are you mad

Veterans
and active-duty service members
respond to Obama's speech on Afghanistan war escalation statement: The
statement below was issued on Dec. 3 by March Forward!, an organization of
veterans and active-duty service members affiliated with the ANSWER Coalition.
On Dec. 1, we got a clear order from President Obama. For many more years,
we will be sent to kill, to die, to be maimed and wounded, in a war where “victory” is
impossible, against a people who are not our enemies.
For over eight years, we have come home in coffins, in wheelchairs, with our
skin burned and with our days and nights haunted by the trauma of war. We return
home to a VA whose services are so inadequate that active duty soldiers who
succumb to suicide outnumber those killed in combat.
The suffering we and our families must cope with is shared by the people of
Afghanistan, a people who did nothing except be born in one of the most impoverished
countries on the planet, which Washington saw decades ago as a strategic region
for trade, resources and the launching of future wars.
The Afghanistan war is not a war to “help” the Afghan people, and
it is certainly not a war for “national defense.” It is a colonial-type
war. It is a war like every other war the U.S. has waged; a war based on lies
and false rationales, serving only to expand the reach of U.S. corporate interests.
Many of us joined the U.S. military because we believed we would be standing
for something honorable and just; that we would be defending our families and
helping those in need. But this is the great lie peddled by the military brass.
And this is the great lie President Obama has just repeated to the world.
We soldiers are the muscle used to colonize the world for the rich. This is
why all of us—those currently serving in the U.S. military, and all those
who have served—have common cause.
Obama’s announcement to continue and vastly escalate the war in Afghanistan
is a death sentence for us and our sisters and brothers in uniform. Why should
we fight in this war? Why should we risk being killed, or our losing limbs,
or being permanently disfigured, or enduring a lifetime of PTSD? Why should
we leave our families and our children behind, why should we watch our friends
die, why should we destroy the lives of innocent people who have done nothing
to harm us?
We should not!
The Who and How they Own and Control it All! will note that the most important fact the people need to know is that in collective totals government (thousands of individual government entities) owns by stock ownership; bond participation; and equity participation most of the large public traded companies such as technology; pharmaceuticals; energy; banks; insurance; and war industry groups through collective ownership (in many a case 71% to 83% ownership) There is no one individual government entity that will call the shots for these companies (even though some carry more clout than others) but there are private associations that network thousands of local and federal government accounts that have been assigned representative proxy vote rights for the thousands they represent and here is where the control rests.

The $3.04 billion owed was up from $2.7 billion owed by federal employees and retirees in 2007.Among cabinet agencies, the Department of Housing and Urban Development had the highest delinquency rate, at just over 4 percent. The Treasury Department, which includes the IRS, had the lowest delinquency rate, at 0.98 percent.Overall, the 9.7 million federal workers included in the data had a delinquency rate of about 2.9 percent.
2nd-grader sent home for crucifix drawing TAUNTON, Mass. - An 8-year-old boy was sent home from school and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after he was asked to make a Christmas drawing and sketched what appeared to be a stick figure of Jesus on a cross, the child's father said Tuesday. Chester Johnson said his son made the drawing on Dec. 2 after his second-grade teacher asked children to sketch something that reminded them of the holiday. The assignment came just days after the family had visited the holiday lights display at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attleboro, where Johnson said his son seemed taken with the religious statues he saw there."When he seen the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross, that's what he drew," Johnson said. Harassment across Arab world drives women inside The sexual harassment of women in the streets, schools and work places of the Arab world is driving them to cover up and confine themselves to their homes, said activists at the first-ever regional conference addressing the once taboo topic. Activists from 17 countries across the region met in Cairo for a two-day conference ending Monday and concluded that harassment was unchecked across the region because laws don't punish it, women don't report it and the authorities ignore it. The harassment, including groping and verbal abuse, is a daily experience women in the region face and makes them wary of going into public spaces, whether it's the streets or jobs, the participants said. It happens regardless of what women are wearing. (which leads us to the question.......'Why are the men so afraid of women"?........maybe it is time for those men who aren't afraid and honor women as the sacred beings, givers of life, holders of the future...that they are.....to stand up and start teaching the others, to stand up and challenge the status quo.)

Senators move to remove Medicare expansion, public option from healthcare bill Obama and the party's leadership work into the evening to pacify Lieberman and other centrists to solidify the 60-vote coalition needed to overcome an expected Republican filibuster. Mr. Shilling's analysis found that about 1 in 5 Americans hold a government
job or a job reliant on federal spending. A similar number receive Social
Security or a government pension. About 19 million others get food stamps,
2 million get subsidized housing, and 5 million get education grants. For
all these categories, Mr. Shilling counted dependents as well as the direct
recipients of government income.

Peace Prize: President Says Piss Off The president accepted his Peace Prize by arguing for war. It had really seemed like he would need to thread a needle in Oslo, having to graciously to accept an award for bringing peace to the world while he primes a battlefield. He had to mollify or triangulate his right-wing critics who might see any inclinations toward peace, poetic or policy-wise, ritualistic or real, as evidence of his lack of purpose, will, and fiber. At the same time, he had to deal, although perhaps less so, with his left-wing critics who could soon start to see him, in his military pursuits, as a quisling-like president

Israel funnels millions of dollars to settlements The Israeli Cabinet voted Sunday to pour millions of dollars of new funding into Jewish settlements in the West Bank, including several hardline communities that have put up fierce resistance to government-imposed construction restrictions. The vote caused an uncharacteristic rift in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Cabinet, with centrist members accusing the Israeli leader of caving in to pressure from Israeli extremists.Netanyahu announced his spending plan last week, saying it would grant funds for transportation, education and health care to distressed areas throughout the country. But the inclusion of some Jewish settlements, particularly isolated communities known for their hardline populations, drew accusations that he is trying to buy off settlers who are furious over the new limits on construction in their communities

Senate to vote on $1.1 trillion spending bill Senate Democrats overcame a Republican filibuster to clear the way for a vote Sunday on a huge end-of-year $1.1 trillion spending bill that gives budget increases far exceeding inflation to much of the government. The Democratic-controlled Senate voted 60-34 on Saturday to end the GOP filibuster that threatened to hold up the legislation. The call, issued at a 11 December meeting in Bethlehem, comes at a time when many Palestinians believe they have reached a dead end. Even in the midst of "our catastrophe" the call is described as a word of faith, hope and love
FUNERAL MOTORCADE FOR THE DEER Urban deer massacre (“culling”), combined with unadulterated fun-killing (bow-hunting), is a national disgrace.
Through my last 6 Compassion for Animals Road Expeditions (CARE-1 – CARE-6, 2003-2008, each covering 25-42 states over 3-7 months), I have worked with activists in no less than 25 states whose by-and-large pro-culling and pro-hunting officials discharge their “deer management” duties by means of bullets and arrows.
The current hottest battle in the “Deer War” is at the Shawnee Mission Park, Kansas City, which local activists have dubbed “Death Park”. There were supposedly some 575 deer living in the 3.7 sq.mi. urban park. Local officials estimate the maximum deer population density to be 50 per sq.mi., which produces the maximum allowable total number of 185 in the park. Up to December 9, 313 deer had been culled by “Dr. Death” Anthony DeNicola. This yields a remaining population of about 260, about 75 higher than the limit of 185, and 75 is about what the Park Board has allocated to the bow-hunters, 15 of whom have been granted permits to do the dirty deed, with pleasure of course.

Five young Americans arrested in Pakistan The men, all U.S. citizens about age 20 who recently disappeared from the Washington, D.C., area, were detained in the Punjab region for suspicious activities. Reporting from Washington - Five young students who recently vanished from the Washington, D.C., area have been arrested in Pakistan, authorities confirmed Wednesday, raising fears that they are part of a recent wave of U.S.-based Muslims traveling to South Asia and other extremist hot spots to engage in terrorist activities.Authorities did not release the names of those arrested but said they were all men, U.S. citizens in their late teens or early 20s. One of them left behind a video -- still being analyzed by authorities -- that shows American casualties, officials said. On the video, he says Muslims need to stand up and fight to defend their fellow Muslims, according to several sources familiar with the case.

Closed Chrysler dealers to drive Obama's eligibility Seeking damages for lost businesses, will question administration's 'authority .. Two lawyers have joined forces to assemble a case challenging in U.S. bankruptcy court the federal government's use of Troubled Asset Relief Program funds to bail out Chrysler and in doing so may have created a scenario that finally will bring to a head the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president. The attorneys are Leo Donofrio, who has launched cases directly challenging Obama's eligibility, and Stephen Pidgeon, who also has worked on the issue. Their new case questions the authority by which the federal government and administration officials intervened in the auto industry, specifically allocating some $8 billion-plus to Chrysler, which later was forgiven.

WWII veteran had Hitler's art book on bookshelf After fighting his way across Europe during World War II, John Pistone was among the U.S. soldiers who entered Adolf Hitler's home nestled in the Bavarian Alps as the war came to a close.Making his way through the Berghof, Hitler's home nearBerchtesgaden, Germany, Pistone noticed a table with shelves underneath. Exhilarated by the certainty of victory over the Nazis, Pistone took an album filled with photographs of paintings as a souvenir."It was really a great feeling to be there and we knew, by that time, he was on his last leg," Pistone told The Associated Press.Sixty-four years after Pistone brought the album home to Ohio, the 87-year-old has learned its full significance: It's part of a series compiled for Hitler featuring art he wanted for his "Fuhrermuseum," a planned museum in Linz, Austria, Hitler's hometown.
Liberation Psychology for the U.S.Are we too demoralized to protest? The term "liberation psychology" was popularized by Ignacio Martin-Baró (1942-1989), the psychologist, priest, and activist who was assassinated in El Salvador by government troops. Martin-Baró focused on the oppression of his fellow Salvadorans, Central Americans, and Latin Americans. It is increasingly apparent that U.S. citizens need Martin-Baró's insights along with their own special kind of liberation psychology. Why, in the United States, when the majority of people oppose the taxpayer bailout of the financial industry and the military occupation in Iraq, are the streets not regularly occupied with large numbers of protesters? Given 47 million people in the U.S. without health insurance and many millions more who are underinsured or a job layoff away from losing their coverage, and given the current sellout by their elected officials to the insurance industry, why are there not millions, rather than thousands in Washington, DC protesting this betrayal?

Researcher to Dutch Government: Allow Euthanasia for Newborns Based on Foreseeable Suffering A Dutch health researcher has called on the nation's government to allow physicians to euthanize newborns based on foreseen suffering, rather than only actual suffering, reports the Dutch medical journal Zorgkrant. Hilde Buiting, maintains that such an amendment would only conform the law to the current practice among physicians. "The current guidelines state that there must be actual grave suffering on the part of the newborn," she said, as quoted in Zorgkrant. "In practice, physicians look not only to the actual suffering of the sick newborn, but also to the grave suffering foreseen in the future. This reality should be included in the considerations in adapting the guidelines."Doomed helicopter which crashed in Iraq killing two SAS soldiers had not had safety checks for 30 years A coroner today criticised the Ministry of Defence for failing to adequately maintain a helicopter which crashed and caught fire in Iraq, claiming the lives of two SAS soldiers.Herefordshire Coroner David Halpern said that the primary cause of the RAF Puma's crash-landing near Baghdad in November 2007 had been pilot error. But the coroner, who heard seven days of evidence about the deaths of Corporal Lee Fitzsimmons and Sergeant John Battersby, ruled that a faulty fuel valve had been a relevant factor in one of their deaths.

Author Discusses His Decision to Write America’s Failure in Iraq Author Michael O’Brien shares his story of writing and publishing a book that is close to his heart.Obama urges major new stimulus, jobs spending President Barack Obama called for a major new burst of federal spending Tuesday, perhaps $150 billion or more, aiming to jolt the wobbly economy into a stronger recovery and reduce painfully persistent double-digit unemployment. Despite Republican criticism concerning record federal deficits, Obama said the U.S. has had to "spend our way out of this recession" with so many people out of work but insisted he was still mindful of a need to confront soaring deficits. More than 7 million Americans have lost their jobs since the recession began two years ago, and the jobless rate stands at 10 percent, statistics Obama called "staggering."(perhaps Mr. Obama should read our article "Checkbook 101" to get a little bit of an idea of fiscal responsibility.....it shouldn't be any different on a governmental level as it is on a personal level. There is no way, now shape, no form, that ANYONE CAN SPEND THEMSELVES OUT OF DEBT!.....)

Panic Erupts in Wake of New Anti-Immigrant Law Arizona community activists and religious leaders are trying to mitigate fears over a new law that would require state employees to denounce undocumented immigrants."There's panic in the community," said Pastor Magdalena Schwartz from the Disciples of the Kingdom Free United Methodist Church. OBAMA'S SURGE / A HOLLOW ECHO OF BUSH SURGE..President Obama's announced 30,000 troop surge is a hollow echo of Bush's Iraq surge and it's being met with indifference and skepticism by the majority of Afghans who have fought and successfully defeated other ambitious foreign occupying powers such as the United States: Allen L Roland William Pitt nailed it when he wrote " On Tuesday night, President Barack Obama delivered the best speech George W. Bush ever gave in his life. Mr. Bush, if he was watching, would have recognized virtually every facet of Obama's speech, for it was the Bush administration that hammered out the template used by Mr. Obama to deliver the news that he is doubling down on the war in Afghanistan."
PROMISES, PROMISES: A closed meeting on openness It's hardly the image of transparency the Obama administration wants to project: A workshop on government openness is closed to the public. The event Monday for federal employees is a fitting symbol ofPresident Barack Obama's uneven record so far on the Freedom of Information Act, a big part of keeping his campaign promise to make his administration the most transparent ever. As Obama's first year in office ends, the government's actions when the public and press seek information are not yet matching up with the president's words.

Obama and the Same Old Bush Lies, for the Same Reasons The war in Afghanistan is being escalated on false pretenses. There is zero chance to “win” the war with the “new” (which is the same old failed) strategy and everybody involved with it knows it. When Obama and McChrystal use the words “win” and “victory,” they are not using the same dictionary used by the rest of the human race. “Victory” to them, means that the greater undefined mission can continue, not come to an end. Afghanistan, like Iraq, will never see the withdrawal of American/NATO forces; that’s why all the giant super-bases are needed in both countries. That also applies to the massive super-embassy being built in Islamabad. “Victory” is not winning, but is the point in the war when large numbers of troops fighting this war can be safely transferred to the next war. This is what we are seeing in the so-called withdrawal from Iraq and will probably see in the anticipated withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2011. There will never be a real American withdrawal from any of these countries, unless it is forced upon them by the people.Temp firms a magnet for unfit nurses Firms that supply temporary nurses to the nation's hospitals are taking perilous shortcuts in their screening and supervision, sometimes putting seriously ill patients in the hands of incompetent or impaired caregivers. Emboldened by a chronic nursing shortage and scant regulation, the firms vie for their share of a free-wheeling, $4-billion industry. Some have become havens for nurses who hopscotch from place to place to avoid the consequences of their misconduct.

After a VIP preview last weekend, L.A. Obama's War: Why is the Largest Military Machine on the Planet Unable to Defeat the Resistance in Afghanistan Part of U.S. imperialism’s problem is that its occupation forces are required to rely on the most corrupt, venal and discredited warlords. The only interest these competing military thugs have is in pocketing funds for reconstruction and development. Entire government ministries, their payrolls and their projects have been found to be total fiction. Billions allocated for schools, water and road construction have gone directly into the warlords’ pockets. Hundreds of news articles, congressional inquiries and U.N. reports have exposed just how all-pervasive corruption is.

Greenhouse Gas Observatories Downwind from Erupting Volcanoes Problems in the collection of atmospheric CO2 data parallel other absurdities in the global warming fraud. The Climategate scandal is exposing the massive and systematic fraud behind the fabrication of the worldwide temperature record necessary to make the case for global warming. But what about the record of atmospheric CO2? The U.S. NOAA openly admits to producing a CO2 record which "contains no actual data." NOAA temperature stations sited in ways that artificially inflate temperatures have been exposed over the past two years. CO2 observatories have similar flaws. Two of the five NOAA "baseline" stations are downwind from erupting volcanoes. All five are subject to localized or regional CO2 sources.12/4/09

Tree hunters tell of two nights in snow Keith and Jennifer Lee were driving home on a remote mountain road, their prized Christmas tree strapped to the roof of their all-wheel-drive, when they rounded a backcountry corner and found themselves suddenly mired in snow. Out of cell phone range, and unaware a search was under way, the couple spent three days and two cold nights before Keith Lee finally freed the Subaru and drove home, the tree still tied on top.

bombing at graduation ceremony in Somalia kills 3 Cabinet ministers Reporting
from Cairo and Mogadishu, Somalia - In a stunning attack on Somalia's
shaky government, a suicide bombing Thursday at a graduation ceremony in
Mogadishu killed three Cabinet ministers and least 12 others, government
officials said.
The bomber sneaked in amid hundreds of guests and graduating medical students
at the Shamo Hotel in the south of the capital. Government forces control
only a sliver of Mogadishu, and the attack was another indication of the
reach of Islamist militants and Al Qaeda operatives. The top-ranking officials
killed in the explosion were Health Minister Qamar Aden Ali, Higher Education
Minister Ibrahim Hassan Adow and Education Minister Ahmed Abdullahi Wayeel.
News reports put the number of dead, including students, doctors and journalists,
at 10 to 15.
'I Did Not Anticipate a Crisis of This Magnitude' Ben Bernanke took some serious lumps today on Capitol Hill, but he still seems to have the support he'll need to get a second term as chief of the Federal Reserve. "I did not anticipate a crisis of this magnitude," he told members of a Senate panel during the sometimes contentious confirmation hearing. “In the area where we had responsibility, the bank holding companies, we should have done more. That is a mistake we won’t make again.”

Black Caucus Openly Feuds With Obama Long frustrated by President Obama's inaction on urban issues, the Congressional Black Caucus threw up its hands yesterday and walked out on a vote on financial reform following a heated meeting between Maxine Waters and Rahm Emanuel. The measure passed easily, but Waters said the CBC could side with the GOP next time if Obama doesn’t address its concerns. The caucus believes Obama, a former member, takes them for granted, and favors conservative Blue Dogs.12/3/09

I, Psychopath Psychopaths… we usually only know them from Hollywood movies. We never expect them to enter our real life. But, the psychopath is closer than you think. Experts believe their number to be as high as one in a hundred. Most of them function incognito in high-powered professions…all the way to the very top. But… it takes one to truly know one. In this intriguing documentary, Sam Vaknin, a self-proclaimed psychopath, goes in search of a diagnosis. In a scientific first, he allows himself to undergo testing to find out if he was born without a conscience. He knows he’s narcissistic and cannot empathize with others. By his own admission, he’s pompous, grandiose, repulsive and contradictory, ruthless and devoid of scruples, capricious and unfathomable… but he believes, he’s not a bad person. What he is is indifferent…he couldn’t care less. Unless, of course, the topic is himself.Protestors ask for jobs, not war Speakers at a rally in the Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza called for President Obama to bring U.S. troops home from Afghanistan and spend dollars on fixing America's economy instead. Around 50 people attended the rally, organized by the Community Alliance of Lane County, Wednesday afternoon. Lane County Commisioner Rob Handy was among those who addressed the crowd. Other speakers included clergymen, business owners and college students. The rally was a response to President Obama's announcement he will send additional troops to Afghanistan
The Largest Known Star In The Universe. (We are so small..) Here on planet Earth, we're completely oblivious to the grand scale of things in the universe. Much the way we perceive dust particles as being insignifcant, universally speaking we are not much more than this. The scale of things is mind blowing! The last star is called VY Canis Majoris, a hypergiant star located 5,000 light years from earth and is considered to be the largest star discovered in the universe.Assuming the upper size limit of 2100 solar radii, light would take more than 8 hours to travel around the star's circumference
OBAMA IS A NATIONAL TRAGEDY / A SYMBOL OF OUR TRAGIC TIMES President Obama is a national tragedy ~ a straw man without a spine. The perfect symbol for a Democratic party that refuses to act boldly and easy pickings for Republican Pit Bulls, like Sarah Palin, who has become a lightening rod for cross party anger towards both Obama and politicians in general: Allen L Roland In other words, It's time to take to the streets and, if necessary, shut the government down until the people's will is responded to by both the President and those in Congress. Want to have your voice heard. Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or email the President. Obama is betting his prestige and re-election on this War ( Occupation ) and he will eventually lose both.

Black Hole Caught Zapping Galaxy Into Existence? Which come first, the supermassive black holes that frantically devour matter or the enormous galaxies where they reside? A brand new scenario has emerged from a recent set of outstanding observations of a black hole without a home: black holes may be “building” their own host galaxy. This could be the long-sought missing link to understanding why the masses of black holes are larger in galaxies that contain more stars.

Troops, families mixed over Obama's Afghan surge Battle-weary troops and their families braced for a wrenching round of new deployments to Afghanistan, but many said they support the surge announced Tuesday as long as it helps to end the 8-year-old conflict. As President Barack Obama outlined his plan to send 30,000 extra troops to Afghanistan — while pledging to start bringing them home in 2011 — soldiers, Marines and their families interviewed by The Associated Press felt a tangle of fresh concerns and renewed hopes. Some took in the televised announcement as they played darts in a barroom near their base, while others watched from their living rooms. Are you Like that Bullfrog????? KILLING THE FAMILY OF JESUS U.S. shipped 989 munitions containers to Israel week before Gaza invasion Modern genetics testing has demonstrated that modern-day Palestinians have a direct genetic trail back to the biblical Israelites.
Israel is killing them.
And YOU are paying for it, which means you share the guilt. YOU are paying for the weapons used to kill the modern day family of Jesus. The moment you sign that 1040 form, you sign a confession, admitting before all the world that you are an accessory in the murder.
(7th FIRE EDITORS NOTE: Violence is never the answer or solution to any problem, question or frustration. This type of 'shooting is becoming all to common, all over America and the world, in homes, in schools, as well as other places, and by all kinds of people. Violence only begets more violence when understanding, love and compassion is so badly needed in the world today.)

The world gets crazier and crazier everyday, doesn't it? The world that many
of us thought was there, isn't. The bottom has dropped out of everything. The
illusions have been revealed, we have found out who has been pulling the strings
behind the scenes. Millions have lost their jobs, have mortgage
problems, and
foreclosure. What can be done? Amazingly, we have been mislead. We have been
taught that we can control government by voting. The founder of the Rothschild
dynasty, Mayer Amschel Bauer, told the secret of controlling the government
of a nation over 200 years ago. He said, "Permit
me to issue and control the money of a nation and I care not who makes its
laws." Get
the picture? Your freedom hinges first on the nation's banks and money system.
It's all about 'commerce'. Freedom is connected with Debt Elimination for
each individual. Not only does this end
personal debt, it places the people first in line
as creditors to the National Debt ahead of the banks. They don't wish for
you to know this. It has to do with recognizing WHO you really are in A
