Judge: Corps' negligence caused Katrina flooding U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval sided with six residents and one business who argued the Army Corps' shoddy oversight of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet led to the flooding of New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward and neighboring St. Bernard Parish. He said, however, the corps couldn't be held liable for the flooding of eastern New Orleans, where two of the plaintiffs lived.Duval awarded the plaintiffs $720,000, but the government could eventually be forced to pay much more in damages. The ruling should give more than 100,000 other individuals, businesses and government entities a better shot at claiming billions of dollars in damages.

More than $98 billion in improper gov't payments More than $98 billion in taxpayer dollars spent by government agencies was wasted, much of it on questionable claims for tax credits and Medicare benefits, representing an increase of $26 billion from the previous year.In all, about 5 percent of spending in federal programs in fiscal year 2009 was improper, according to new details of a government financial report that were released Tuesday. Saying the overall error rate was similar in 2008, officials attributed the $26 billion jump to some changes in how to define improper spending as well as an increase in overall spending due to the recession.

Watchdog: Gov't may have overpaid to bail out AIG Officials managing the multibillion dollar bailout of insurance giant American International Group Inc. bungled the first rescue and may have overpaid other banks to wind down AIG's business relationships, a government watchdog says. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York — headed at the time by now Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner — paid AIG's business partners face value for securities so they would cancel insurance-like contracts AIG had written and ease the firm's liquidity crunch. But at least one of those partner banks would have canceled the contracts for less, according to a report Tuesday from Neil Barofsky, the Special Inspector General for the $700 billion financial bailout Congress approved last October.
AP Poll: Americans fret over health overhaul costs It's the cost, Mr. President. That's creating new challenges for President Barack Obama as he tries to close the deal with a handful of Democratic doubters in the Senate.Although Americans share a conviction that major health care changes are needed, Democratic bills that extend coverage to the uninsured and try to hold down medical costs get no better than a lukewarm reception

Farmers, Ranchers Fighting Back Against FDA Tyranny Over Animal Farms (NaturalNews) A bill that would grant the FDA expanded authority to inspect farms has come under fire from ranchers and farmers concerned about increased government interference in their operations.n response to a recent series of food-borne illness outbreaks, a bill has been approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee that would allocate more money and authority to the FDA to fulfill its current food safety duties. Although technically the bill would not expand the FDA's authority to foods currently supervised by the Department of Agriculture (USDA) – meat, poultry and some egg products – many farmers and their advocates are concerned that the language of the bill is too vague to ensure against this.

Fragile Care Worsened Swine Flu in Ukraine When patients began arriving in Vyacheslav Bonder’s intensive care unit two weeks ago, their lungs so saturated with blood that they could barely gasp, the only thing he could compare it to was a field hospital in wartime. As soon as he hooked one patient up to a ventilator, a second and third would appear in the doorway.By that time, hospitals were clearing wards to make room for a wave of pneumonia cases, and people were crowding into drugstores to buy whatever they could get their hands on. Rumors were circulating that the government had ordered the city aerially sprayed with chemicals, to cure Lviv (pronounced luh-VEEVE) of disease or, in a grimmer version, to exterminate its carriers.(this does not seem to be the same as the well advertised 'swine' flu...this is much worse and some are wondering what has been 'cooked' up now and is being dumped upon the people?) "The virus causing the deaths is extremely aggressive, it doesn't first infect the throat (as is common in flu), but strikes the lungs directly," said Dr. Viktor Bachinsky, according to a ZIK news agency web report.
Counties in Kansas designated as disaster areas The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated Cheyenne, Rice and Sherman counties in Kansas as primary natural disaster areas because of losses caused by high winds and hail that occurred from July 17, through September 3, 2009. "President Obama and I understand these conditions caused severe damage to the area and serious harm to farms in Kansas and we want to help," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. "This action will provide help to hundreds of farmers who suffered significant production losses to corn, dry beans, sorghum, soybeans, sunflowers and wheat, as well as grasses and forage." USDA has also made other programs available to assist farmers and ranchers, including the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE), which was approved as part of the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008; the Emergency Conservation Program; Federal Crop Insurance; and the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program. Interested farmers may contact their local USDA Service Centers for further information on eligibility requirements and application procedures for these and other programs. Gamal Mubarak: Egypt’s Next Unelected President It is always amusing to see how authoritarian regimes endow themselves with the trappings of democracy – a party, parliament, “elections” – as if they somehow confer legitimacy to otherwise undemocratic governance. In Egypt, the 28-year rule of U.S.-backed president Hosni Mubarak is a good illustration. Although Mubarak claimed election victory in 2005 and his “National Democratic Party” (NDP) holds a majority in parliament, since assuming power in 1981, his government has been most notable for political intimidation of opponents, suppression of dissent, and silencing any and all who dare challenge his authority.
Bloodless President Barack Obama makes Americans wistful for George W Bush During the election campaign, Barack Obama's cool detachment was a winning quality, the "No Drama Obama" a welcome contrast with the "Mr Angry" John McCain, never mind the hot-headed "I'm the decider" President George W Bush. A year into his presidency, however, Mr Obama seems a curiously bloodless president. If he experiences passion, he seldom shows it. It is often anyone's guess as to whether an event or issue truly moves him.

Israeli database reveals full extent of illegal settlement Just four years
ago, the defense establishment decided to carry out a seemingly elementary task:
establish a comprehensive database on the settlements. Brigadier General (res.)
Baruch Spiegel, aide to then defense minister Shaul Mofaz, was put in charge
of the project. For over two years, Spiegel and his staff, who all signed a special
confidentiality agreement, went about systematically collecting data, primarily
from the Civil Administration. One of the main reasons for this effort was the
need to have credible and accessible information at the ready to contend with
legal actions brought by Palestinian residents, human rights organizations and
leftist movements challenging the legality of construction in the settlements
and the use of private lands to establish or expand them. The painstakingly amassed
data was labeled political dynamite.

Who Are You Calling "Extremist"? By Michelle Malkin Here is one of the loudest messages of the 2009 off-off-year elections: Conservatives in America will no longer let their opponents define them as outside of the mainstream. They will not submit to Democrats. Or to the media. Or to Beltway Republican capitulationists. They will not "rebrand." They will not sit down. They will not shut up.
(A clue here: ......it has been standard practice by those in power or who want to be in power to find someway to 'devide' and conquer. One of those methods, call it brain-washing/manipulation or strategy is to start 'labeling' groups/people, putting all of them into this box or that camp and then pitting people against each other. America was founded on 'freedom of speech'.......'they' want to stop that and this is the method they use to do that......It behooves us to remember the famous saying {paraphrased}: "I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" If you want your freedom to speak saved, then you must help save that freedom for all!)

Cruel and Unusual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law Nonie Darwish presents an insider's look at Sharia and examines how radical Muslim laws are destroying the Western world from within. Living under Sharia law for the first thirty years of her life,a virtual slave to Islamic law, Darwish never questioned or challenged her rights--or dared to even think about the validity of Sharia laws. But she doesn't believe the lies anymore, and now she wants to share her experiences with the Western world. Cruel and Usual Punishment is an insider's look at how Muslims sacrifice their basic human rights to obey the archaic and brutal laws handed down to their prophet centuries ago.

Immigration raids yield jobs for legal workers When federal agents descended on six meatpacking plants owned by Swift & Co. in December 2006, they rounded up nearly 1,300 suspected illegal immigrants that made up about 10% of the labor force at the plants. But the raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents did not cripple the company or the plants. In fact, they were back up and running at full staff within months by replacing those removed with a significant number of native-born Americans, according to a report by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).
Iowa, U.S. gripped by trial in wake of historic immigrant raid The man who managed a once-dominant kosher meat empire heads to trial Tuesday to face allegations involving what U.S. Attorney Matt Dummermuth describes as the largest single-site immigration raid in United States history. The trial, in which Sholom Rubashkin will challenge 91 fraud-related charges, marks the latest turn in a case that dealt a blow to the northeastern Iowa town of Postville and stoked the national debate over immigration. Publicity surrounding the case has been so intense that the trial was moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Sioux Falls, S.D.

Obama's Nobel: The Last Thing He Needs The last thing Barack Obama needed at this moment in his presidency and our politics is a prize for a promise. So when reality bites, it chomps down hard. His critics fault some of those efforts: those who favor a missile shield for Poland or a troop surge in Afghanistan or a harder line on Iran. But even his fans know that none of the dreams have yet come true, and a prize for even dreaming them can feed the illusion that they have. (See the Top 10 Obama Backlash Moments)

Mystery
surrounds 'plague death' victim Before Malcolm
Casadaban died on September 13, the 60-year-old microbiologist at
the University of Chicago had been suffering from flu-like symptoms.
Another victim of swine flu? Perhaps - but an autopsy revealed he had
plague bacteria in his blood. Casadaban was reported to have been working
with a weakened vaccine strain of Yersinia pestis, intended
for the development of vaccines against plague. However, doctors are
not sure the bacilli in Casadaban's blood were the cause of death, or
how they got there. So what's going on?

Republicans: Dems ignore health care concerns The Democratic-run Congress is ignoring the public's concerns in the rush to pass legislation to overhaul the nation's health care system, Republicans say."The American people expect us to get this right and to do it in an open, honest and bipartisan debate. That's what they deserve," said Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson, in his party's radio and Internet address Saturday. "But that's not what they're getting from the Democrats on Capitol Hill."
Analysis: Strains show in debate on Afghan troops The Potomac River is a physical as well as a figurative divide between the White House and the Pentagon, and occupants of each building often refer to the other address as a slightly foreign place "across the river."The gulf is suddenly on display as President Barack Obama contemplates whether to widen the U.S. commitment to the 8-year-old war in Afghanistan, a battle that is losing political and popular support even as it replaces Iraq as the military's No. 1 priority.

Thoughts 10/21/2008 I have been reading quite a bit lately on mind-coercion and brainwash. There are some very interesting articles on the net about this. One fact that stuck out in my mind, is that almost everyone, when being influenced, makes decisions on emotions instead of logic. That makes perfect sense if you think about it. How else could dictators or cult-leaders convince the masses of their ideology being true? It’s all about charisma; and if you think about it, that’s a pretty scary thought.

"Rosetta Stone" of supervolcanoes discovered in Italian Alps Scientists have found the "Rosetta Stone" of supervolcanoes, those giant pockmarks in the Earth's surface produced by rare and massive explosive eruptions that rank among nature's most violent events. The eruptions produce devastation on a regional scale — and possibly trigger climatic and environmental effects at a global scale.A fossil supervolcano has been discovered in the Italian Alps' Sesia Valley by a team led by James E. Quick, a geology professor at Southern Methodist University. The discovery will advance scientific understanding of active supervolcanoes, like Yellowstone, which is the second-largest supervolcano in the world and which last erupted 630,000 years ago.

Located in California's Central Valley, between the state's capital city and Stockton, it is where the American, Mokelumne, Cosumnes, and Calaveras Rivers flow into the larger Sacramento and San Joaquin. It is also where the saddest agricultural saga since the Depression-era Dust Bowl is now playing, as the waters from those rivers flow beneath San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge and out to sea. As they flow unimpeded to the Pacific, those waters are also washing out to sea the livelihoods of tens of thousands of farm workers and agricultural business owners. It is an economic as well as human tragedy.

The Oil Shortage Hoax There was a staggeringly important article on the front page of the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. Briefly, it said that the immense run up in oil prices in 2008, from roughly $33 a barrel to roughly $150 per barrel was not caused by an oil shortage, was not caused by an immense upsurge in demand from China and India and Brazil, not caused by bandits in Nigeria. This finding was from President Obama's Commodity Futures Trading Commission, hardly a mouthpiece of Big Oil.

KILLING THE FAMILY OF JESUS U.S. shipped 989 munitions containers to Israel week before Gaza invasion Modern genetics testing has demonstrated that modern-day Palestinians have a direct genetic trail back to the biblical Israelites.
Israel is killing them.
And YOU are paying for it, which means you share the guilt. YOU are paying for the weapons used to kill the modern day family of Jesus. The moment you sign that 1040 form, you sign a confession, admitting before all the world that you are an accessory in the murder.
(7th FIRE EDITORS NOTE: Violence is never the answer or solution to any problem, question or frustration. This type of 'shooting is becoming all to common, all over America and the world, in homes, in schools, as well as other places, and by all kinds of people. Violence only begets more violence when understanding, love and compassion is so badly needed in the world today.)

The world gets crazier and crazier everyday, doesn't it? The world that many
of us thought was there, isn't. The bottom has dropped out of everything. The
illusions have been revealed, we have found out who has been pulling the strings
behind the scenes. Millions have lost their jobs, have mortgage
problems, and
foreclosure. What can be done? Amazingly, we have been mislead. We have been
taught that we can control government by voting. The founder of the Rothschild
dynasty, Mayer Amschel Bauer, told the secret of controlling the government
of a nation over 200 years ago. He said, "Permit
me to issue and control the money of a nation and I care not who makes its
laws." Get
the picture? Your freedom hinges first on the nation's banks and money system.
It's all about 'commerce'. Freedom is connected with Debt Elimination for
each individual. Not only does this end
personal debt, it places the people first in line
as creditors to the National Debt ahead of the banks. They don't wish for
you to know this. It has to do with recognizing WHO you really are in A
New Beginning: A Practical Course in Miracles, an informational study. Is
your credit rating bad for reasons that seem out of your control? There are
ways of credit repair,
so you can men those broken fences too. Do you want to keep your children protected
from outside forces, there are ways of protecting
your children. Do you want
to keep your sons and daughters free from 'the draft'? Check this out.
