Conventional Views in Science by Immanuel Velikovsky
Immanuel
Velikovsky in his 1950's book Worlds in Collision proposes that
many myths and traditions of ancient peoples and cultures are based on
actual events: worldwide global catastrophes of a celestial origin, which
had a profound effect on the lives, beliefs and writings of early mankind.
"Worlds in Collision
is a book of wars in the celestial sphere that took place in historical
times. In these wars the planet earth participated too. [...] The
historical-cosmological story of this book is based in the evidence of
historical texts of many people around the globe, on classical literature,
on epics of the northern races, on sacred books of the peoples of the
Orient and Occident, on traditions and folklore of primitive peoples, on
old astronomical inscriptions and charts, on archaeological finds, and
also on geological and paleontological material." - Worlds In Collision,
Preface.
After reaching the number 1 spot in the best-sellers list, Velikovsky's
Worlds in Collision was banned from a number of academic
institutions, and creating an unprecedented scientific debacle that became
known as The Velikovsky Affair.
In 1956 Velikovsky wrote Earth in Upheaval to present conclusive
geological evidence of terrestrial catastrophism.
"I have excluded from [these
pages] all references to ancient literature, traditions, and folklore; and
this I have done with intent, so that careless critics cannot decry the
entire work as "tales and legends". Stones and bones are the only
witness." - Earth in Upheaval, Preface.
Many scientists and historians have criticised Velikovsky's works over
the years, unfortunately, many have done so inaccurately resulting in the
public's misconception that Velikovsky was "completely proved wrong"
When I was still in high school, my parents would often travel to the
county seat to shop and I would disappear to the County Library. I
found Worlds in Collision and Earth in Upheaval written by Velikovsky and
devoured them with great delight. Almost magical, rooted in history and
legend, these books opened me to the possibilities of cataclysm and
controversy.
Alfred Wegener's theory of Continental Drift seemed pale by
comparison to Velikovsky. Wegener's was ridiculed and scoffed at by
the so-called scientists of the time....until in the 1960's it was
confirmed and as plate tectonics became a part of the science curriculum I
taught. Velikovsky continued to face the pseudo-scientists who
proclaimed his work unsuitable for academic consideration. Carl
Sagan took it upon himself to defend the halls of science from
Velikovsky's "heresy."
"In Apri1, 1940, Velikovsky
was first struck by the idea that a great natural catastrophe had taken
place at the time of the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt- a time when
plagues occurred, the Sea of Passage parted, Mt. Sinai erupted, and the
pillar of cloud and fire moved in the sky. Velikovsky wondered: Does any
Egyptian record of a similar catastrophe exist? He found the answer in an
obscure papyrus stored in Leiden, Holland- the lamentations of an Egyptian
sage, Ipuwer. The Ipuwer Papyrus, Velikovsky became convinced, parallels
the Book of Exodus, describing the Eastern history, taking this
catastrophe- which brought the downfall of the Egyptian Middle Kingdom- as
a starting point from which to synchronize the histories of Egypt and
Israel. He titled his work Ages in Chaos.
The cause of the catastrophe
terminating the Middle Kingdom remained unexplained. One afternoon in
October, 1940, Velikovsky noticed an important fact: the Book of Joshua
describes a destructive shower of meteorites occurring before the sun
"stood still," in the sky. Could this be a coincidence, or were the
ancients recording a cosmic disturbance that must have shaken the entire
Earth and might have been related to the upheavals approximately 50 years
earlier during the Exodus? A survey of other sources around the world
convinced Velikovsky that a global cataclysm had indeed overtaken the
Earth, and that Venus played a decisive role in that cataclysm. For 10
years he researched and wrote Ages in Chaos and Worlds in Collision. He
had by now taken up permanent residence in the United States.
Today, many of Velikovsky's predictions have been confirmed if not
acknowledged. He predicted radio noises would be discovered originating
from Jupiter. This was confirmed in 1955. Einstein was so impressed with
Velikovsky's confirmed prediction that he was convinced that more
scientific study was warranted on Velikovsky's hypothesis that
electromagnetism had an important role to play in the universe. Einstein's
estate sought such research to no avail.
In 1946 Velikovsky predicted the surface of temperature of Venus would
be much hotter than earth and hydrocarbons would be found in its
atmosphere. This was confirmed in 1962 by Mariner II. The scientific
community refused to acknowledge his priority.
His sin was to use legends and myths of the ancient world as
observations of cataclysms lost from the memory of modern man. The
arrogance of the pseudo-science fogged their mind and the objectivity
required of the scientific method was gone.
The hazard of such muddled thinking is to be seen in the expression of
the animal and the human in the pictograph above, reaching across
millennia to warn us of an event that they clearly had experienced. Our
survival depends in part on our ability to keep an open mind and never
believe that we understand the universe perfectly well. Obviously we
have much to learn and we will not learn it from the scholars and
academicians.

Worlds in Collision is written with a very clear albeit
synthetic language. We cannot here give a detailed presentation of the
extremely rich content of this book, thus we only review some of the main
theses.
- V. stresses the information value of ancient texts, based according
to him on real experiences lived in a different astronomical context
than now. The idea that the events described in ancient texts pertained
to real experiences used to be accepted without difficulty in western
world until Illuminism: this included in particular the idea of
catastrophes within human memory, including the Universal Deluge
described in the Bible and in other traditions (Deucalion,.). These
ideas were accepted by Newton and Cuvier. Illuminism started criticism
of Bible opening the way to the so called uniformitarism approach
that became dominant in the 19th century thanks in particular
to the works of Lyell in geology and of Darwin in biology: the present
is the key of the past, there are no celestial catastrophes today, there
were none in Moses time. No stones fall from the sky today, no stones
could have fallen in the past (this extreme statement dominated
astronomy well into the second half of 19th century, when a
heavy fall of meteorites in France convinced the astronomers to accept
ancient records of falling stones). Now, fifty years after Worlds in
Collision we can certainly say that scholars in the natural sciences
pay more attention to ancient records of catastrophes. Such attention is
partly due also to the existence of technological means, not available
at V. time, to verify the effects of such unusual events in the
geological and biological record: sophisticated analysis of pollen and
other organic material in lacustral and oceanic sediments, analysis of
organic and inorganic materials in long ice carrots extracted in
Greenland or Antarctica, dendrochronological series extending now to
about 10.000 years in some cases. From such analysis evidence has
emerged of strong climatic variations in the last 12.000 years, some
setting so quickly that they can probably not be explained in terms of
the usual terrestrial processes. Finally the direct observation in the
case of the Shoemaker-Levy comet of the processes of disintegration
proposed by V. and other neocatastrophists (especially Clube and Napier)
and of planetary impact, an event that astronomers considered extremely
unlikely to be able to observe in their lifetime, has made the
astronomical community conscious that our solar system surrounding is
more fraught with dangers than it was believed just fifty years ago
- V. has claimed the instability of solar system and the emergence of
the present orbital configuration, with regard at least to Mars and
Venus, in very recent times, in fact in historical times (the last
catastrophe, associated with Sennacherib siege of Jerusalem, being dated
at about 27 centuries ago). Such claim was made at a time when the solar
system was considered to be an extremely stable configuration, on the
basis of approximate analytical analysis of the stability of dynamical
n-body systems and of the properties of the standard model (condensation
from a gas cloud) for the formation of the solar system. This scenario
after fifty years has dramatically changed, albeit the theses of V.
about Venus and Mars are still considered unacceptable, except from a
small minority of scholars. The analysis made using the modern very
sophisticated analytical instruments has indeed shown that nonlinear
complex dynamical system, including planetary systems, have generally a
behavior of the type defined chaotic, whose long term behavior
cannot be predicted and whose dynamical structure is extremely rich. Now
it is estimated that, even disregarding the very possible interactions
with other bodies and structures in the galaxy, the solar system cannot
be back integrated in time for more than a few million years, a factor
one thousand less than estimated fifty years ago. Moreover components of
the solar system have been discovered, both at large distances or at
planetary distances, that either were then unknown or their importance
was not properly evaluated, e.g. the so called Apollo/Amor objects and
the Kuiper belt (where objects of a considerable 600 km diameter are now
known to exist). The observation, albeit incomplete, of about sixty non
solar planetary systems has shown dynamical and structural features
completely unexpected and actually in several cases considered
previously as dynamical impossibilities (e.g. the presence of Jovian or
super Jovian planets very close to the mother star, when the current
model had in that region only terrestrial type planets; or the presence
of Jovian type planets in highly elliptical orbits). With a hundred
arguments the astronomer Van Flandern has proposed again the hypothesis
of Olbers about the explosion of one or more planets in the region of
the asteroid belt, as the event that originated not only the asteroids
but as well the majority of comets and probably even Mars, considered as
a surviving satellite of the exploded planet. Van Flandern dates the
last explosion to 3.2 million years ago. Observing, independently of Van
Flandern, that the sequence of ice ages on our planet starts also 3.2
million years ago, the physicists Woelfli and Baltensperger have
recently proposed a new theory for the origin of such ice ages, in terms
of effects on Earth axis, called true polar wandering (where the
north and south points move over the Earth surface), due to the close
flyby of a planet, whose size was taken as default as that of.. Mars!
These authors have solved on the computer the equations defining the
dynamics of the flyby (considering only gravitational forces, but with
heavy use of the tidal forces). Their computations have shown that a
sufficiently close passage can lead to a polar displacement of even 18
degrees, a conclusion with Velikovskian flavor. They have moreover found
that the body interacting with Earth at its perihelium would be heated
so much by the Sun that it would move away from the Sun as a giant
comet, surrounded by bluish hot gas over one million km diameter. again
a wholly Velikovskian scenario. Outstanding is however still the problem
of proving that the proposed rounding of orbits of Venus and Mars can be
achieved in a few centuries, i. e a few hundred revolutions, albeit we
are also not aware of a rigorous proof that it cannot. In
conclusion, fifty years after Worlds in Collision we are facing
very open scenarios about the structural and dynamical configuration of
planetary systems. This confirms the importance of the idea of V. to use
the testimonial information from ancient people about the evolution of
our own planetary system.
- V. has also stressed the importance of electromagnetic interactions
in astronomy, with particular regard to close flybys of large bodies.
Gravity still remains the only force considered by the majority of
cosmologists for the evolution of the Universe and smaller structures as
planetary systems, despite the authoritative alternative ideas of Nobel
Prize Alfven (quoted in several papers by V.) on the role of large scale
plasma structures in the Universe. Several problems have however arisen
by using the classical Newtonian law of inverse square dependence on
distance when used on structures (globular clusters, galaxies, clusters
of galaxies.) having much greater size than the solar system size where
Kepler derived his laws. Thus the need of introducing dark matter or
even more exotic structures and particles or to hypothesize a different
functional relation to distance or to introduce new forces. V. had
lengthy discussion with Einstein on the role of electromagnetism in the
Universe, see his book in internet on his meetings with Einstein.
Developments of V. ideas on electromagnetism role are due to scholars
inspired by V., among them Juergens, Thornhill, Ginenthal, De Grazia,
Milton, Zysman.
- V. predicted emission of radio waves from Jupiter, a high
temperature of Venus surface (when it was believed it should be a little
above Earth temperatures) and that Earth was surrounded by a magnetic
field. These forecasts were confirmed within a few years and V. had his
forecast recognized in a letter sent to Science (21 December 1962) by
the Princeton physicist Bargmann and the Columbia University astronomer
Motz. V. had moreover often insisted with Einstein to the purpose that
during one of the first space missions his predicted radio emissions
from Jupiter should be looked for. Einstein failed to obtain this
experiment and later sent a letter to V. excusing himself for not having
supported his proposal.
- The detailed pictures obtained in the last years of the surfaces of
Mars and Venus have shown quite surprising geological features. Venus
surface seems to have been recently melted or covered by magma
emissions; erosion structures are essentially lacking. Mars surface
shows evidence of very recent catastrophic sculpturing events, including
unexpected evidence of subterranean water. Again there is a remarkable
lack of the erosion phenomena that should have smoothed the planet
surface in the course of the billion years of life in the standard
model. A detailed analysis of Mars morphology at the light of V.
hypotheses has been presented in a paper by Ginenthal at the New York
1995 conference for the centennial of V.

The Kolbrin manuscripts compiled of
manuscripts saved
before the burning of Glastonbury Monastery and safe-guarded by a group
called "The Culdians" is a parallel bible, but interestingly has more
detail on certain accounts such as The Flood and Exodus. It names
"THE DESTROYER" as precipitating both events and there are
many pages describing the terrible events. The Kolbrin manuscripts
were published in 1994 in Thames by the Culdians and the translation
appears in modern English.
Chapter Four, titled THE
DELUGE from The Book of Gleanings Paragraph 24
"Then, with the dawning, men saw an awesome sight. There, riding on a
black rolling cloud came the Destroyer, newly released from the confines
of the sky vaults, and she raged about the heavens, for it was her day of
judgement. The beast with her opened its mouth and belched forth fire and
hot stones and a vile smoke. It covered the whole sky above and the
meeting place of Earth and heaven could no longer be seen. In the evening
the places of the stars were changed, they rolled across the sky to new
stations, then the floodwaters came"
"The floodgates of Heaven were opened and the foundations of Earth were
broken apart. The surrounding waters poured over the land and broke upon
the mountains. The storehouses of the winds burst their bolts asunder,
so storms and whirlwinds were loosed, to hurl themselves upon the Earth.
In the seething waters and howling gales all buildings were destroyed,
trees were uprooted and mountains cast down. There was a time of great
heat, then came a bitter cold. The waves over the waters did not rise and
fall but seethed and swirled, there was an awful sound above."
Four more paragraphs to the end of the chapter, describe how the stars
were loosened in the Heavens. A ship that had been built was borne up by
the waters. The waters filling the valleys, going over the mountain
tops in huge surging torrents. The Destroyer then passes, the flood
remains for seven days and the ship finally comes to rest in the mountains
of Ashtar.

pool from an underground supply, and all men agree it was a most fearsome
sight. It was not a great comet or a loosened star, being more like a
fiery body of flame."

"This was the aspect of the Doomshape called the 'Destroyer,' when it
appeared in days long gone by, in olden times. It is thus described in the
old records, few of which remain. It is said that when it appears in the
Heavens above, Earth splits open from the heat, like a nut roasted before
the fire. Then flames shoot up through the surface and leap about like
fiery fiends upon black blood. The moisture inside the land is all dried
up, the pastures and cultivated places are consumed in flames and they and
all trees become white ashes."

" There was a strange silence and then, in the gloom, it was seen that the
waters had parted, leaving a passage between. The land had risen, but it
was disturbed and trembled, the way was not straight or clear. The waters
about were as if spun within a bowl, the swampland alone remained
undisturbed. From the horn of the Destroyer came a high shrilling noise
which stopped the ears of men."

" Pharaoh fought against the hindmost of the slaves and prevailed over
them, and there was a great slaughter amid the sand, the swamp and the
water."

" The great surge of rocks and waters overwhelmed the chariots of the
Egyptians who went before the footmen. The chariot of the Pharaoh was
hurled into the air as if by a mighty hand and was crushed in the midst of
the rolling waters"
There is much description of massive upheaval in this chapter caused by
the Destroyer leaving no doubt that the Slaves only managed to escape
during a time of great chaos in the fermenting landscape.
THE FUTURE
Chapter 3 The Destroyer Part 1 From the Great Scroll

"Men forget the days of the Destroyer. Only the wise know where it went
and that it will return in its appointed hour"

"When ages pass, certain laws operate upon the stars in the Heavens. Their
ways change, there is movement and restlessness, they are no longer
constant and a great light appears redly in the skies."

"When blood drops upon the earth, the Destroyer will appear and mountains
will open up and belch forth fire and ashes. Trees will be destroyed and
all living things engulfed. Waters will be swallowed up by the land and
seas will boil"
The timing for this event will be when "women will be as men and men as
women" "men will fly in the air as birds and swim in the sea as fishes"
"then shall the high strive with the low" etc, etc. There follows a
depiction of the effects of the Destroyer this time around which is poetic
and terrifying, i.e. "when children will turn grey headed"
It is interesting to note that Glastonbury Abbey, the place where the
Kolbrin manuscripts were kept was burnt down with the hope of destroying
this "heretical" version.
Fire and Ice.
Some things are absolutely certain. The
sun will rise in the east. The tide will ebb and flood. The moon will wax
and wane. And summer always comes. Human civilization at its base relies
on these certainties. Such absolutes have driven our agriculture, biology,
calendars, and our poetry. But what happens if one of these totally
reliable, completely certain events one day didn't happen? It would be as
if the world had come to an end.
When the sun disappeared from the
morning sky during the solar eclipse in the year 1230 AD, peasants left
the fields and went back to bed, where they prayed for God to save the
world. When, at the end of the last great ice age 12,000 years ago, the
glaciers began to retreat and the oceans rise.. it might well be that a
man named Noah set off on ark, hoping to save the last living creatures on
earth. And when one year in Alaska summer never came, a tribe of Eskimos
nearly died out and a creation myth was born.
Today scientists have the tools to explain some of the massive disruptions
in nature's normal cycles. But surviving them is still a life and death
struggle. Producer Daniel Grossman examined an Eskimo creation myth about
the "year of two winters," and found that the Alaskan tale may actually
have its roots thousands of miles away in
Iceland.

Earthquake Clouds
'Earthquake Clouds'- For years, considered a mystery to
science with an unknown form of genesis, strange cloud formations have
been thought to precede earthquakes. Even ancient Chinese and Italians
were aware of unique clouds that gave sign preceding large earthquakes.
Sudden formation of long 'snakes' in the sky, where prior was clear and
blue, where the deep earth warns in the sky above - how can this be?
Modern science of earthquake genesis, called 'brittle fracture theory', is
sudden fracture of a fault. Yet these clouds form days before earthquakes.
How?
This article will reveal the true mechanism to how,
why, and the physics of what causes 'earthquake clouds' - or a proper
definition 'Earth Transient Clouds (ETrC). This phenomenon will also
demonstrate how popular 'brittle fracture theory' continues to crumble as
a feasible argument in how earthquakes really occur. However, 'Earthquake
Clouds' are not reliable precursors - this too will be explained & why.

Saddam Hussein and The Stargate
The absolute determination of
President Bush and the inner circle of his immediate executive branch
staff in 2003 seems to indicate a level of commitment to dislodge Saddam
Hussein from power for reasons that appear on the surface unsubstantiated
by any other physical evidence of threat by Saddam to the United States.
It should be noted however, that substantial numbers of the Bush
administration, including George W. Bush and father, former President
Bush, have been tied to several organizations with connections to the
occult and ancient arcane knowledge and practices. The on-going lack of
any discovery of "weapons of mass destruction" or verifiable links of Iraq
to the 9-11 assault on the World Trade Towers only tend to deepen
suspicions that the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and the occupation of Iraq
may be tied to the discovery and/or potential use of such undisclosed
advanced stargate technology.
Approaching Extinction Level Threshold Commander Ashkar and his highly evolved command have one
function within this realm: PROTECT PLANET EARTH FROM ALL THINGS THAT
MIGHT DISRUPT THIS PLANET'S SPONTANEOUS EVOLUTION. This prime directive
includes defense against any and all beings having their origin either
within or without this realm, which might have the intent and ability to
violate that directive.
We all know that the Earth is experiencing
global warming and other changes, whether the petroleum giants like it or
not. Just read the headlines.
What we may NOT know is the following:
SUN: The Sun's magnetic field is over 230 % stronger now than it was at
the beginning of the 1900s, and its overall energetic activity has sizably
increased, creating a frenzy of activity that continues to embarrass
NASA's official predictions.
VENUS: Venus is now glowing in the dark, as is Jupiter's moon Io.
EARTH: In the last 30 years, Earth's icecaps have thinned out by as much
as 40 percent. Quite inexplicably, just since 1997 the structure of the
Earth has shifted from being slightly more egg-shaped, or elongated at the
poles, to more pumpkin-shaped, or flattened at the poles. No one at NASA
has even bothered to try to explain this
yet.
MARS: The icecaps of Mars noticeably melted just within one year, causing
50-percent changes in surface features. Atmospheric density had risen by
200 percent above previous observations as of 1997.
JUPITER: Jupiter has become so highly energized that it is now surrounded
by a visibly glowing donut tube of energy in the path of the moon Io. The
size of Jupiter's magnetic field has more than doubled since 1992.
SATURN: Saturn's polar regions have been noticeably brightening, and its
magnetic field strength increasing.
URANUS: According to NASA's Voyager II space probe, Uranus and Neptune
both appear to have had recent magnetic pole shifts: 60 degrees for Uranus
and 50 for Neptune.
NEPTUNE: Neptune has become 40 percent brighter in infrared since 1996,
and is fully 100-percent brighter in certain areas. Also, Neptune's moon
Triton has had a very large percentage increase in atmospheric pressure
and temperature, comparable to a 22-degree Fahrenheit increase on Earth.
PLUTO: As of September 2002, Pluto has experienced a 300-percent increase
in its atmospheric pressure in the last 14 years, while also becoming
noticeably darker in color. |

As a member of an elite team, we were given different scenarios,
one what if situation presented to us, was, if a rogue asteroid
threaten life on Earth, what would be our solution? The group,
one of the best in the world came to the conclusion that panic
throughout the world population would result in a higher death
toll than the impact itself. You should get the picture, the
government secretly pushed [the movies] Deep Impact and
Armageddon to prepare the public sub-consciously. So we
put together a plan just in case, and if this did not work we
were under the impression Mission Control in Houston would go
public in order the preserve as many lives as possible.
One day, the military inquired about this plan stating
concern, and the meeting did not sit right with me. We are the
leaders in space technology so why were they prepping us of a
threat? The plan was instituted and designed to coincide with a
normal space operation just incase a cover story was needed, but
targeting did not work. Our new infrared satellite failed
unexpectedly and we were blind. We had to depend upon the space
station staff by a scientist well briefed in nuclear technology,
SOHO and Houston for accurate guidance.
So in late September, the cover story was released as normal
into the general population, and now I am worried, because stray
meteorites breaking away from the main object have been
impacting Earth within the last couple of weeks. Details,
sketchy at best, are spread by rumors only, so my confidence is
low and team was given orders to muzzle all information
officially under national security.
When members of NASA resigned recently, it struck me as odd.
Are they running from an incident that we had under control that
is now out of hand. My kids are the apple of my eye, if the
worst happens, do I take my chances in the field among the
coarse or stay with the pack, my co-workers, whom I loathe? They
think only of themselves.
I want to apologize to America. It was my intention to
protect you, spare you the pain and worry. It has been weighing
on my mind. Others would like to come forward, but intimidation
and visions of David Kelly and the Wilsons bring them to
reality; no one wants to volunteer for a suicide mission, let
someone else save this planet. I thought we would have a
solution, but that will not happen. After watching the posts
here on GLP transpire during recent months, my advice to you, is
to follow the facts and your instincts, gauge the words by the
intensity of backlash and the percentage of an element of truth.
Could a scenario be true even though you don't have all the
pieces? The higher the confrontation against certain posts
exhibiting a common theme, the closer you may be to the reality.
The inbound object is odd, the slight glimpse I had during the
briefing, due to security and a need to know basis, showed an
object masked within a dust cloud. I asked myself, what kind of
an asteroid has its own dust cloud? I have a bad feeling about
this. If you want to know, I did this for my kids and
unofficially my fate is sealed. I have nothing to lose if you
detect who I am. Although, I really would like to visit them
just in case, but all the vacation days until the end of the
year have been taken. I never had a problem before except
for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this year is different. I
want our country to return to what the forefathers expected out
of this land, the truth, personal freedom and trust in God. As
the months progress, what few there are, I will put my faith in
God, not man's religion; it is only here will my spirit
find true peace. This is a one time post. I will not respond to
