Holistic Pet Stories

The accounts related here are true and factual cases experienced in my holistic clinical animal practice.  The best part of my practice comes once a week when a client either phones, writes a letter or comes in person to thank Blair and I for using holistic medicine for their pet.  Here are a few of their stories.

Willie, a young male Yorkie  pup, was presented with symptoms of not eating, being disoriented, not growing and generally being a very unthrifty puppy.  The owner had come to the clinic a few times, but unfortunately I couldn’t come up with a diagnosis or a holistic treatment.  I suggested that I keep Willie in my house for a few days so that maybe I could find some symptoms and hopefully that would lead us to a group of homeopathics that we would consider.  Willie’s health deteriorated and by the second day he was now blind, deaf and so disoriented that he continually paced, only to the right and always along a wall.  Using these symptoms, I decided to try the homeopathic Argentum Nitricum 30C.  Much to my surprise, Willie responded so well that by the 2nd day after the treatment, I was sitting on the couch and I called him. He not only responded, but came running to me and jumped up into my lap.  From that day on, Willie’s health returned and he went home to his owner.

In January, a lady brought a cat into the clinic that had been to five other veterinary clinics.  The diagnosis was kidney failure and no one ventured a treatment; the case was apparently very advanced and the owner was told the only treatment would be a very expensive kidney transplant.  Using the lab work and the diagnosis from the previous veterinarians, I counseled the owner on my pre-requisites prior to treatment.  This consists of warning the owner of the dangers of over-vaccination, the over use of chemicals, the harmful effects of processed cat food and we arrived at a supportive plan to increase the overall health of the cat.  In addition, the only treatment I prescribed was a Kidney support(nutraceutical)  by Standard Process and a homeopathic kidney formula by the Heel Homeopathic Company.  This June (07), the owner presented a very healthy cat who has a good appetite, a good haircoat, is very energetic and inquisitive and shows no signs of kidney failure.  The owner refused blood tests so we don’t know how  elevated any kidney values are, but to the untrained and trained  eye, this cat appears completely normal.

The last case I’m presenting today is my own horse.  He is a race horse and I was given him as a 2 year old.  He had been in training at a major Florida race track and had developed diarrhea and no vet or clinic could cure him.  When I adopted him, he was skin and bone (very emaciated) and had profuse diarrhea.  Using herbs, probiotics and homeopathics I finally cured him after several months.  During that time, I decided to build him up by teaching him to drive (thorobreds usually are not driven (harness and cart) but are ridden (saddle, bridle and rider).  Squirt, as he was affectionately called, took to the training with all the enthusiasm of a good race horse and we had many good days out on the Florida Greenway exercising and enjoying nature.  The first race I entered him in was in Virginia at Colonial Downs Race Course and it was for a mile on the grass.  Since I had been training Squirt without shoes, I asked the racing stewards if I could run him barefoot. After some explanation, they reluctantly agreed and Squirt went on to run a spectacular race and finished second, and, by the way, his odds were 75 to 1. I won a race  with him the following year and again it was on the grass and he was barefoot and they told me he was the only horse in history to win a race on the grass without shoes.  Since then he has won $65,000 and many races. He has had no recurrence of the diarrhea and that once bony horse is now a majestic powerful thorobred who, by the way, loves to not only race, but also go on hunter paces and will pull a cart again when he retires from racing.
